Job Title: Survey Field Technician I

Job Description

This role offers an opportunity to contribute to meaningful surveying projects that support the future of the communities where we live, work, and play. As a Survey Field Technician I, you will work outdoors in a variety of conditions, support survey crews with field data collection, and help deliver accurate information for land development, infrastructure, and engineering projects. You will join a multidisciplinary engineering and surveying organization that invests in employee ownership, professional growth, and collaborative teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload survey equipment from vehicles and safely carry equipment to and from job sites.
  • Cut survey lines using a brush axe to clear paths through vegetation and terrain as needed.
  • Run a level rod to obtain accurate elevations and support topographic and other survey activities.
  • Hold and operate a prism pole to establish and record horizontal positions for survey measurements.
  • Assist with topographic, ALTA, land development, and other survey types as directed by the survey crew.
  • Support the use of GPS, total stations, Trimble equipment, and other survey instruments in the field.
  • Follow instructions from survey crew leaders to ensure accurate and complete field data collection.
  • Walk long distances for extended periods through all types of terrain, including uneven ground and occasionally water.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and field protocols to protect yourself, your team, and the public.
  • Maintain survey tools and equipment in clean, working condition and report any issues promptly.
  • Travel to various project sites, including occasional overnight stays, as required by project needs.
  • Represent the survey team professionally when interacting with coworkers, clients, and the public.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working outside on a regular basis, preferably in extreme or challenging weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including extensive walking over uneven terrain and in various environments.
  • Comfort using or learning survey instruments such as GPS, total stations, and Trimble equipment.
  • Basic understanding or interest in land surveying, topographic surveys, and survey fieldwork.
  • Valid driver"s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to pass a drug test.
  • Strong reliability, punctuality, and willingness to follow directions in a field crew environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Interest or prior exposure to land surveying, land development, or survey crew work.
  • Familiarity with survey-related concepts such as topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, and survey analysis.
  • Exposure to or interest in using GPS, total stations, and Trimble survey systems.
  • Interest in civil, environmental, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or related engineering disciplines.
  • Willingness to learn software tools such as Civil 3D and other surveying or engineering applications.
  • Desire to grow within a multidisciplinary engineering and surveying organization.
  • Motivation to participate in professional development opportunities such as mentoring, training, tuition reimbursement, and early career programs.

Work Environment

This is an onsite, field-based role with a standard schedule of four nine-hour days and a half day on Fridays, providing a structured yet flexible workweek. You will work primarily outdoors in a wide range of conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and other extreme weather, and will frequently traverse uneven ground, vegetation, and occasionally water. The role requires regular use of survey equipment such as GPS units, total stations, Trimble systems, and other field instruments, as well as standard tools like brush axes and level rods. Occasional overnight travel may be required to support project needs in different locations. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $33.00/hr.
