Survey Party Chief

Oxford Solutions is working with a respected engineering and surveying organization seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to lead field crews on a variety of land development and infrastructure projects. This is a direct hire opportunity for a hands-on leader who thrives in outdoor environments and takes pride in delivering precise, high-quality survey data.

Position Overview
The Survey Party Chief will oversee daily field operations, ensure safe and accurate data collection, and coordinate closely with project managers and licensed surveyors. This individual will lead survey crews in the execution of boundary surveys, construction staking, and topographic surveys while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise field survey crews, providing direction, mentoring, and performance guidance
• Conduct boundary, topographic, and construction layout surveys
• Operate and manage survey equipment including GPS, robotic total stations, and scanning systems
• Perform field calculations, control checks, traverse closures, and level runs to validate accuracy
• Maintain clear, organized field notes and documentation in accordance with project requirements
• Collect and prepare field data for seamless transfer to office processing teams
• Conduct daily safety briefings and enforce established safety procedures and job hazard analyses
• Coordinate daily activities with project managers and survey staff to meet deadlines and scope requirements
• Track crew time, vehicle usage, and equipment condition
• Support collaboration with engineering, GIS, and planning teams to ensure accurate deliverables

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Associate’s Degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or related field preferred (or equivalent field experience)
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Survey Party Chief or Crew Chief
• Proficiency with modern survey data collection systems, including Leica GPS, total stations, and scanning technology preferred
• Strong understanding of survey procedures, field calculations, and data integrity standards
• Ability to lead teams in fast-paced, field-based environments
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments
