Survey Party Chief – Land Surveying

Compensation: $33/hr - $45/hr DOE + Overtime

A growing engineering and surveying firm is seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to join its field operations team based primarily out of the Wall, NJ office. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated field professional looking to work with modern survey technology, a steady pipeline of projects, and a leadership team that values reliability, autonomy, and technical skill.
The firm performs a wide variety of survey services throughout New Jersey and has continued to expand due to strong client demand and recent project wins. Field crews are equipped with newer trucks, modern instrumentation, and streamlined communication workflows that allow crews to operate efficiently and independently in the field.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead field crews on a variety of survey projects throughout New Jersey
- Perform boundary, topographic, utility, ALTA/NSPS, and construction layout surveys
- Operate robotic total stations, GPS equipment, and data collectors
- Coordinate daily field activities with Survey Project Managers and office staff
- Upload and transfer field data for processing and drafting
- Maintain accurate field notes and quality control standards
- Communicate effectively with contractors, clients, and internal teams on job sites
- Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and accurately

- Carlson data collectors and RT5 controllers
- Leica GPS equipment and antennas
- Carlson BRx7 receivers
- UAV/drone technology utilized across field operations
- Microsoft OneDrive-based field data transfer workflows

What They're Looking For
- 3+ years of field survey experience preferred
- Experience operating robotic total stations and GPS equipment
- Ability to work independently and lead a crew
- Strong understanding of construction layout and boundary surveying
- Reliable communication and organizational skills
- Willingness to work both independently and collaboratively
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Leica and Carlson equipment
- Familiarity with boundary and topographic survey procedures
- UAV/drone experience or FAA Part 107 certification is a plus
- Experience working on both public and private sector projects
- Knowledge of New Jersey surveying workflows and standards
