    Description

    The Opportunity

RETTEW is seeking an experienced Maryland-licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to lead survey projects and provide licensed technical oversight for work supporting clients throughout Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic.

This is a specialized opportunity for a Maryland PLS who wants to expand their project leadership, client relationships, and influence within a multidisciplinary engineering consulting environment.

You'll manage surveying projects from scope through delivery, provide technical and professional oversight, coordinate field and office teams, and work alongside RETTEW professionals across land development, transportation, environmental, and infrastructure projects.

While Maryland licensure is central to this role, the position is based from a RETTEW office in Pennsylvania. We are open to discussing the most practical RETTEW office location with the selected candidate.

    What You'll Do

As a Survey Project Manager, you will:

    • Manage surveying projects from initial scope and proposal through fieldwork, production, quality review, and final delivery.
    • Lead boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, construction, and other professional surveying assignments.
    • Provide licensed professional oversight for Maryland surveying work.
    • Review and seal survey plans, plats, and other deliverables in accordance with Maryland requirements and professional standards.
    • Serve as a primary client contact, managing expectations, communication, project needs, and deliverables.
    • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
    • Monitor project financial performance, schedule, scope changes, and delivery commitments.
    • Coordinate field crews, survey/CAD professionals, Project Managers, Engineers, and other technical disciplines.
    • Perform and oversee technical and quality-control reviews of survey deliverables.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to survey professionals and developing staff.
    • Support proposals, project pursuits, and opportunities to expand relationships with existing clients.
    • Collaborate with RETTEW teams across offices and disciplines to support land development, transportation, infrastructure, and other projects.

    What We're Looking For

    Required

    • Active Professional Land Surveyor license in Maryland.
    • Significant professional surveying experience, including responsibility for project delivery.
    • Demonstrated experience managing survey projects with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
    • Strong working knowledge of Maryland surveying laws, regulations, standards, and professional requirements.
    • Experience reviewing and taking professional responsibility for survey plans, plats, and related deliverables.
    • Experience coordinating field and office survey operations.
    • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and priorities.
    • Working knowledge of professional survey technology, software, equipment, and CAD-based production environments.
    • Strong client communication and project-leadership skills.
    • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project/client locations as needed.
    • Ability to work on a hybrid basis from an approved RETTEW office location in Pennsylvania.

    Preferred

    • Professional Land Surveyor licensure in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or another Mid-Atlantic state.
    • Experience supporting land development, transportation, infrastructure, or multidisciplinary engineering projects.
    • Experience mentoring survey professionals or leading technical teams.
    • Experience developing scopes, fees, and proposals.
    • Experience supporting client development or expanding existing client relationships.
    • Experience within a multidisciplinary engineering or consulting environment.

    Lead More Than Survey Projects

This position offers the opportunity to bring your Maryland surveying expertise into a broader multidisciplinary environment.

At RETTEW, you'll have opportunities to:

    • Lead survey projects and client relationships rather than focusing solely on technical production.
    • Serve as a key licensed resource supporting RETTEW's Maryland work.
    • Collaborate directly with Civil Engineers, Project Managers, Land Development professionals, Transportation teams, and other technical disciplines.
    • Mentor and develop survey professionals.
    • Influence quality, technical standards, and project delivery.
    • Participate in proposals, pursuits, and client-growth opportunities.
    • Expand your leadership responsibilities as RETTEW's survey capabilities continue to grow.
    • Build ownership in RETTEW through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

    Work Environment

    Workplace Designation: Hybrid

Primary Work Location: Approved RETTEW Pennsylvania office

This position is not a fully remote role. Regular in-office collaboration is required.

Because Maryland PLS licensure is a specialized requirement for this position, RETTEW is open to discussing which Pennsylvania office provides the most practical work location for the selected candidate.

The position also includes client meetings, project coordination, and occasional field/project travel as needed.

    Safety & Compliance

This position is designated as safety-sensitive. The selected candidate must successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings, which may include background checks, drug testing, and motor vehicle record review, where applicable.

This role may involve field-based work, site visits, and operation of company vehicles or personal vehicles for business purposes. Ongoing compliance with RETTEW's safety policies, client-specific safety requirements, and applicable regulatory standards is required.
