Job Title: Survey Technician

Job Description

The Survey Technician supports field survey crews by assisting with sitework and construction layout, operating survey instruments, and collecting accurate field data. This role is ideal for someone who is motivated to learn, eager to grow within the surveying field, and ready to contribute to a variety of projects involving foundations, utilities, grading, and site improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the survey crew in performing field surveys for sitework and construction layout.
  • Set up, operate, and break down survey equipment, including total stations, GPS units, and data collectors.
  • Support staking activities for foundations, utilities, grading, and other site improvements.
  • Collect, record, and verify field data accurately and consistently.
  • Maintain survey equipment, ensuring proper handling, storage, and basic care in the field and at the office.
  • Drive to project sites and assist with mobilizing and demobilizing survey equipment and materials.
  • Follow all safety procedures and site protocols while working on active construction sites.
  • Collaborate closely with survey crew members to complete daily tasks efficiently and on schedule.
  • Use AutoCAD and Civil 3D to support survey-related drafting and documentation as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Experience assisting with surveying or land surveying tasks, including topographic and construction layout work.
  • Basic proficiency with survey equipment such as total stations, GPS, and data collectors.
  • 0-1 year of experience with AutoCAD; at least 1 year of AutoCAD experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Civil 3D for survey-related drafting and design support.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when collecting and recording field data.
  • Reliable, consistent work habits with a strong desire to learn and grow in the surveying profession.
  • Ability to follow directions, adhere to safety procedures, and comply with site protocols.
  • Valid driver capability to travel to and from project sites as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related civil discipline.
  • Interest in topography, surveying, and land surveying as a long-term career path.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, including reliability, punctuality, and willingness to take initiative.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a field crew and communicate clearly with team members.
  • Openness to learning new technologies, tools, and methods in surveying and construction layout.

Work Environment

This is an on-site, field-based role with typical hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional Saturday work depending on project needs. You will work primarily outdoors on active construction and sitework projects, using survey equipment such as total stations, GPS units, and data collectors, and supporting office-based tasks with AutoCAD and Civil 3D as needed. The position offers a structured growth path with planned raises at 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year, and regular opportunities for overtime, which is available weekly but not required. The environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, reliability, and professional development, providing a strong foundation for building a long-term career in surveying and civil construction.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
