    Survey Technician/Instrument Operator

    NorthStar Energy Solutions is Hiring for a Survey Technician/Instrument Operator.

    The Survey Technician / Instrument Operator works hands‑on in the field, supporting survey crews on active construction projects. This role focuses on runningsurvey equipment, collecting accurate field data, and helping lay out work for boundary, topo, and construction staking. The job involves working outdoors year‑round, following safety rules, taking direction from the Crew Foreman, and keeping equipment and documentation in good working order. Ideal candidates are dependable, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working long days on job sites, including travel when required, especially on large infrastructure or data center projects.

    What You'll Do
    • Utilize multiple types of surveying equipment to assist field crews with daily data collection activities for boundary, topographic, and construction staking/layout surveys
    • Support field survey operations under the direction of the Crew Foreman while providing updates on progress and identifying field issues as they arise
    • Operate and maintain surveying technology, including robotic total stations, GNSS systems, data collectors/radios, and digital or automatic levels
    • Prepare organized and accurate field documentation and measurement records for survey activities under Crew Foreman guidance
    • Maintain cleanliness and proper working condition of survey instruments, tools, and company vehicles
    • Adhere to established company safety standards, procedures, and operational policies

    Work Environment:

    • Primarily field-based with some office work for data processing and reporting
    • Work may occur on active construction sites with heavy equipment and strict safety requirements
    • May require early mornings, extended hours, or weekend work depending on project schedules
    What You'll Bring
    • Required Qualifications

      • Must possess a valid and current driver's license with clean driving record
      • Minimum of two years of experience within the surveying or related construction industry
      • Understanding of standard land surveying methods
      • Ability to perform outdoor field work throughout the year in varying weather conditions and jobsite environments
      • Proficiency with survey equipment (Trimble, Leica, or similar)
      • Basic understanding of civil construction plans and specifications
      • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and site plans

      Strong attention to detail and accuracy

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Experience working on data center or large-scale infrastructure projects
      • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar software
      • Knowledge of coordinate systems, geodesy, and survey data processing
      • OSHA 10 or 30 certification
      • Surveying certifications are a plus

      Physical Requirements:

      • Ability to stand, walk, and work in the field for extended periods
      • Capable of lifting and carrying survey equipment (up to ~50 lbs)
      • Available to travel/stay out of town for work as needed. This position may require full-time travel with scheduled days off.
