Survey Technician

We are seeking an experienced Survey Technician III / Survey Crew Chief to perform land surveying activities supporting electric distribution, gas, electric transmission, and substation infrastructure projects.

This is a highly independent, field-based position responsible for completing topographic surveys, construction surveys, and other land surveying assignments across multiple project locations. The successful candidate will be comfortable independently traveling to project sites, operating modern surveying technology, and completing assigned fieldwork with limited day-to-day supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a Survey Crew Chief responsible for completing assigned land surveying activities.
• Perform topographic, construction, and general land surveys supporting utility and infrastructure projects.
• Support projects involving electric distribution, gas, electric transmission, and substations.
• Receive survey assignments from the office-based survey team and independently coordinate field activities.
• Travel to multiple project sites and perform the majority of assigned work in field environments.
• Operate GPS surveying equipment, laser scanners, Trimble equipment, and survey data collectors.
• Collect accurate field survey data and information required by project teams.
• Utilize computer and survey technology to support field assignments and survey deliverables.
• Coordinate and communicate with survey personnel and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Safely operate company-provided vehicles and surveying equipment.
• Follow established field safety procedures while working at active project locations.
• Maintain ownership of assigned work while adapting to changing project locations, priorities, and schedules.

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of relevant land surveying experience; approximately 10 years of experience is ideal.
• Hands-on experience performing field-based land surveying.
• Proficiency with GPS surveying equipment.
• Experience using laser scanning technology.
• Experience with Trimble survey equipment and data collectors.
• Strong computer and technology skills.
• Ability to independently complete field assignments.
• Ability and willingness to travel frequently to project locations.
• Comfortable working outdoors and at active field/project sites.
• Ability to work overtime and extended days when project demands require it.
• Willingness to complete occasional overnight travel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree or two-year educational background in Surveying Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
• Previous surveying experience supporting utilities, electric transmission/distribution, gas, substations, construction, or other infrastructure projects.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of Trimble surveying technology.

Relevant professional experience may be considered in place of the preferred educational background.
