Description

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a Tier 1 vendor for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and we are recruiting for an experienced Surveying/GIS Mapping Technician for a 12-month contract assignment with TVA supporting the preparation of legal descriptions and maps for lands on which real property rights are to be acquired, sold, or transferred by TVA.

Target start date:  10/05/26
Target W2 Pay Rate:  $30.00 - $35.00/hour (time & half for overtime)
Duration:  12 months
Hours:  Full Time
Work Status:  100% Remote
Location:  Local or Regional candidates highly preferred

Project Summary:
Legal descriptions or cadastral maps may be prepared, compiled, checked, or revised utilizing computer graphics workstations and/or personal computers with highly specialized software or by manual means.  Since each property acquisition or conveyance is unique, few guidelines exist other than drawing specifications and incumbent must apply judgment to each transaction.

Incumbent must determine if sufficient, complete, consistent, and accurate information is available to complete description or map.  If insufficient or conflicting information is identified, incumbent identifies problem and initiates steps to resolve the problem. This may include researching maps, descriptions, contracts, computation sheets, survey notes, and other materials to resolve the problem.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews for completeness and accuracy maps and descriptions prepared by others and notes discrepancies to source of material being checked and recommends steps to rectify insufficiencies or makes additions and revisions.
  • Makes mathematical computations primarily utilizing trigonometric and algebraic principles and checks complex mathematical computations of others.
  • Recommends and implements changes to normal methods and procedures to obtain desired results. Assists the project leader in estimating the project schedule and in selecting the technical procedures to be used.
  • Incumbent works under the general supervision of the Team Leader.
  • General guidelines and instructions are received from the Team Leader, Project Engineer, and/or project leader.
  • The incumbent is allowed independence in carrying out assignments and in meeting schedules.
  • Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex assignments.
  • The completed work is reviewed in comparison of desired results.

Education / Experience:
  • Associate Degree in Surveying/GIS/Civil Technology or a related field.
  • Advanced mathematics courses in trigonometry and algebra.
  • Experience demonstrating competencies in cadastral mapping, photogrammetry, cartography, computer graphics, or closely related field.
  • Production experience with Intergraph MicroStation, ESRI Arc/Info, Terramodel or similar computer-aided mapping software.
  • Proficient in ESRI ARCGIS Pro highly desirable.
