Join Our Team as a Surveyor II at ARRO Consulting! This position is responsible for performing and coordinating field and office survey activities in support of civil engineering projects. The Surveyor II applies established surveying principles and practices to collect, analyze, and interpret spatial data for use in planning, design, and construction. Working both independently and as part of a project team, this role contributes to boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built surveys while ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable standards and regulations. The Surveyor II also supports project delivery within scope, schedule, and budget while mentoring junior staff and continuing to build technical expertise and professional credentials. This position reports to the Senior Surveyor. Essential Job Responsibilities- Perform a variety of field surveys, including boundary, topographic, construction stakeout, and as-built surveys.
- Operate and maintain surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, data collectors, and levels.
- Review project plans, deeds, plats, and prior survey data to prepare for fieldwork and verify requirements.
- Process and analyze field data using surveying and CAD software to produce maps, plats, and documentation.
- Assist in preparing survey deliverables including boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, topographic maps, and construction layouts.
- Ensure all survey work meets regulatory standards, company procedures, and quality control requirements.
- Coordinate field activities with project managers, engineers, and team members to support project schedules.
- Provide guidance and oversight to Surveyor I staff or field technicians, including training on equipment and procedures.
- Perform field calculations, verify control points, and maintain proper documentation of survey data and notes.
- Identify and resolve routine discrepancies, escalating complex issues as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of survey activities, including field notes, sketches, and digital files.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures while working in the field and around construction sites or roadways.
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and property owners during field operations.
- Support continuous improvement by recommending efficiencies in survey methods, workflows, and technology.
- Any other duties, as necessary, to drive to the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the organization.
Required Skills/Knowledge- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Progress toward professional licensure (e.g., SIT/FS certification) preferred.
- Working knowledge of land surveying principles, including boundary analysis, topographic surveying, construction layout, and geodetic control.
- Proficiency with modern surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS/GNSS systems, data collectors, and digital levels.
- Experience with survey data processing and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar).
- Ability to interpret engineering plans, construction drawings, deeds, plats, and legal descriptions.
- Understanding of coordinate systems, datums, and geodesy concepts.
- Knowledge of applicable local, state, and industry standards, including ALTA/NSPS requirements.
- Strong mathematical skills, including geometry and trigonometry.
- Strong attention to detail with ability to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
- Effective problem-solving skills to resolve field and data discrepancies.
- Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively with project teams.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to mentor and guide junior staff.
- Working knowledge of field safety practices and procedures.

Physical Requirements – Work Environment- Split work environment between outdoor fieldwork and indoor office settings.
- Fieldwork performed on construction sites, roadways, undeveloped land, and other project locations.
- Exposure to environmental elements such as dust, noise, insects, and varying terrain.
- Office work includes data processing, drafting, and preparation of survey deliverables.
- Collaborative environment with engineers, project managers, and survey staff.
- Interaction with clients, contractors, and the public during field operations.
- Adherence to safety protocols, including use of PPE such as high-visibility clothing, hard hats, and safety boots.
- May require flexible scheduling, including occasional overtime or weekend work, to meet project deadlines.
