Sustainability Coordinator
Position Summary
The Sustainability Coordinator plays a critical role in advancing sustainability awareness, education, and action across the university community. This position leads campus-wide engagement and outreach efforts that foster a culture of sustainability among students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
The Coordinator manages communications, supports institutional reporting and assessment, and collaborates across units to implement strategic sustainability priorities. This role requires a creative, organized, and relationship-driven professional who can translate sustainability concepts into meaningful programs and initiatives.
Salary
The salary for this position is fixed at $55,000.
Remote Work Capability
This position is based in East Lansing, Michigan, on the campus of Michigan State University. The Office of the Executive Vice President for Administration embraces flexible work options, and this position allows for a hybrid work schedule (if desired), with regular onsite work required 4 days per week. All work schedules are assessed for impact to the work outcomes of the individual, team, and department - and must be pre-approved by the supervisor.

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Communications, or related field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in program coordination, event planning, and/or outreach; experience in spreadsheet and word processing software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in higher education or community engagement; experience with developing and implementing training programs; a self-motivator with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; strong interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking and writing; graphic design or marketing experience; data tracking and program evaluation skills; familiarity with sustainability frameworks (e.g., AASHE STARS); knowledge of university policies and procedures; knowledge of design and systems thinking.
