Position Overview:

The Sustainability Institute seeks a Student Worker to support communications and outreach activities for the Sustainable Jersey and Sustainable Jersey for Schools programs. This role will assist with the development of engaging digital and print content, including graphics, videos, presentations, email communications, website content, and promotional materials. The position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communications and marketing while supporting statewide programs that advance sustainability initiatives in New Jersey municipalities and schools.

Responsibilities:

• Design Graphics: Create graphics and visual materials to enhance Sustainable Jersey communications across websites, social media, email, presentations, and print materials.

• Create & Edit Video Content: Develop and edit video content, including TikToks, Reels, and YouTube videos, to promote Sustainable Jersey programs, resources, events, and initiatives.

• Develop Presentations: Assist program staff in creating and editing presentations for trainings, workshops, meetings, and events.

• Support Email Campaigns: Assist with the development and production of biweekly Sustainable Jersey municipal and schools e-blasts.

• Develop Promotional Materials: Assist with the creation and production of program promotional materials, including flyers, booklets, social media graphics, Reels, and other communications materials.

• Support Website Content: Perform website content entry, review, and updates for the Sustainable Jersey and Sustainable Jersey for Schools websites.

• Event Preparation & Logistics: Support the team in preparing for upcoming events and conferences by inventorying, organizing, assembling, and packing event materials and collateral.

Learning Objectives:

• Marketing & Communications: Develop practical skills and professional experience in marketing and communications by creating content for multiple audiences and platforms.

• Graphic Design & Digital Media: Strengthen skills in graphic design, video production, editing, and digital content creation while developing work that can contribute to a professional portfolio.

• Multi-Channel Communications: Gain experience adapting content for websites, email marketing, social media, presentations, and printed materials.

• Nonprofit Mission Support & Collaboration: Build professionalism, confidence, and collaborative skills while gaining insight into communications and outreach within a mission-driven sustainability organization.

Required Qualifications:

• Interest in communications, marketing, graphic design, digital media, sustainability, or related areas.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Detail-oriented with strong time management and organizational skills.

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience creating graphics for websites, printed materials, social media posts, or other digital communications.

• Experience creating and editing video content for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube.

• Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro, and/or online graphic design platforms such as Canva.

• Familiarity with email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact or Mailchimp.

• Familiarity with website content management systems such as WordPress.

• Interest in environmental and sustainability issues and actions.
