Scope of Position

Plan, staff and develop the Sustaining Engineering department to operate more efficiently and effectively in support of Production needs and support. Resulting in, amongst other things: Reduced product delivery lead time, improved BOM accuracy and improved intradepartmental communication and coordination.  A strong focus on drawing accuracy and deliverable timeliness and overall productivity will all be key measures for success in this position.

This position is responsible for supervision of 2 Sustaining Engineers, a Sr. Designer and a Compliance and Regulatory Engineer.

This position reports to the Sr. Sustaining Engineering Manager. This role is onsite and is based in Blauvelt, NY.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for identifying the necessity and defining paths for redesigning and/or maintaining products for a multitude of reasons (the following list is not all inclusive): Product improvement, revised standards, cost reductions, economies of scale considerations, standardization for configuration and management simplicity.
  • Manage and prioritize the Engineering Change Order, Product Improvement and Value Add Value Engineering processes.  Includes orchestrating both engineering and/or production validations as required.
  • Review, determine & delegate actions on Product Improvement requests.  Prioritize based on safety, performance or other urgency.
  • Lead meetings of functional teams as needed to manage project completion and success.
  • Oversee and coordinate impacts to BOM, drawings, operations, marketing, etc.
  • Manage and organize filing, structure both electronically and hard copy as required.
  • Manage BOM and Parts master to latest validate and released designs.
  • Sustaining Engineering and Design Standards & Processes
  • Sustaining Engineering Project Timelines
  • CAD System administration and SolidWorks setup guidance
  • Drive success measurement through metrics and KPIs.
  • Supervise, direct and monitor daily work priorities of Engineering Team
  • Assume responsibility for other projects and duties as assigned by the Sr. Sustaining Engineering Manager or Company management.
  • Responsibility directly tied to Watts Values (Integrity, Accountability, Continuous Improvement, Transparency)
  • Travel Requirements: less than 5%

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • 8 years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering Design and Manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with SolidWorks required.
  • Ability to communicate and work with colleagues/teams in different departments professionally and effectively.
  • Ability to take initiative and be resourceful.
  • Understanding of and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and safety practices and procedures, as applicable.
  • Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks, including drug screen, and required pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters’s degree in engineering

Working Conditions:

While performing the job duties, you will be working on-site at a manufacturing facility and will perform the majority of your duties in an office environment. You may, at times, be required to be present on the manufacturing floor and will be required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment. You will be required to work in the office at the Blauvelt, NY location (Monday – Friday). Your scheduled work hours will be communicated to you by your manager.

Physical Requirements: Specific physical abilities required for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to remain seated at a desk or workstation for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks like typing on a keyboard or using a mouse for extended periods.
  • Ability to physically move around the office, organize or transport files, packages, or other office-related materials.

Pay Range:

The expected salary range for this position is $114K- $124K yearly. Actual compensation will be dependent upon individual skills, experience, qualifications, and applicable law.
