Job Summary

This position will direct, administer, and coordinate the activities of the organization to ensure the highest levels of performance across the enterprise. The SVP, Chief Operating Officer will be a strategic partner to the President and will be called upon to make recommendations in the development of strategic goals and tactics that address the region''s operations, personnel, financial performance, and overall growth. Maintaining a long, big-picture view, the position has a clear vision for the business and hospital operations, and they will offer contingency plans and generate breakthrough ideas. They will build trust and inspire confidence that Corewell Health East will successfully meet the inherent challenges of today''s rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Essential Functions

  • Drives collaboration with leadership, including physicians, across the region's vast clinical and operational footprint. Organizes and monitors operations to accommodate and respond to patient needs and concerns.
  • Collaborates with market leaders and physician practice leaders to develop strategic alignment within CHE and across the system. Leverages the organization's diversity of capabilities with the goal of being one of the premier systems in the country.
  • Partners with and advises the President about direction and strategy and is empowered to execute and make decisions that help achieve financial stability, ensures compliance with Federal, State and Local regulatory requirements, and efficiency of operations.
  • Leads region-wide enterprise operations toward organizational targets. Drives a culture of performance and excellence across the region while applying nuanced strategies based upon market specific opportunities.
  • Builds trust across the organization by being a visible and collaborative leader. Promotes a healthy organizational culture with high levels of employee and physician engagement.
  • Ensures that all staff demonstrates respect for patient rights and are committed to the uniqueness of the individual patient. Monitors and analyses data on patient satisfaction and takes corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Directs the preparation of the region's short-term and long-range plans and budgets based upon organizational goals and growth objectives.
  • In partnership with the President, builds and sustains relationships with a range of constituencies such as community groups, bargaining units, public officials, and other hospital and physician partners.
  • Establishes and aligns execution of corporate operating policies consistent with the organization's broad policies and objectives.
  • Systematically appraises and evaluates the region's overall operations and reports results to the President. Makes presentations to the Board and System leadership team as required.
  • Reviews activities and operations to ensure compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations and laws governing business operations, including the Joint Commission, state agencies, and other governing bodies.
  • Creates an environment that fosters personnel investment and excellence and creates opportunities that give employees latitude to develop and achieve.
  • Assigns clear authority and accountability and integrates efforts across units and functions. Monitors results and tackles execution obstacles directly and immediately.
  • Leads, influences, and empowers direct reports while encouraging commitment to a common vision and promoting collaborative teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Required Bachelor''s Degree or equivalent Public health, healthcare administration, business administration, graduate of accredited medical school and completion of accredited residency program, or related field
  • Preferred Master''s Degree MBA or similar management degree

10 years of relevant experience Senior hospital leadership with a record of improving patient safety and quality. Required
