Job Description
The SVP of Retail is the enterprise commercial leader accountable for accelerating profitable growth across retail and eCommerce channels, with full ownership of both Sales and Marketing. This role sets the integrated commercial vision and go-to-market strategy; leads customer, category, and brand growth plans for owned, licensed, and private-label portfolios; and drives end-to-end execution across key retailers and digital marketplaces. This role partners cross-functionally (product, supply chain, quality/regulatory, finance) to deliver innovation, pricing and promotion strategy, omni-channel demand generation, and best-in-class retail execution—building strategic retailer relationships and delivering market share, revenue, and gross margin performance through disciplined planning, analytics, and governance.
Core Responsibilities
Develop and execute comprehensive sales and marketing strategies to achieve revenue growth and market share expansion across retail channels. Develop strategies to effectively compete for increased sales and profitability.
Define and own the brand promise and visual identity of each brand using existing delivery as starting point (not a green field exercise).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including product divisions, supply chain, and regulatory—to support seamless execution and delivery of retail initiatives. Provide retail expertise and influence when partnering with cross functional teams, as necessary.
Oversee and direct market research and competitor analysis combining communication with customers and market, consumer and trade research to establish pricing strategies in the context of overall company profits and objectives.
Monitor performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions to meet or exceed sales targets.
Oversee the launch and commercialization of new products, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.
Review and approve the short-term and long-term channel and customer plans. Create Medline sales goals that align with customer plans.
Review and approve category, channel and customer price and promotion strategies for all product lines – branded and private label.
Lead, mentor, and manage high-performing sales and marketing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
Management responsibilities include:
Strategic, tactical and operational planning for the function or department; assure the Retail department supports a customer focused structure;
Direct budgetary responsibility for one or more departments, functions or major projects/programs;
Interpret and execute policies for departments/projects and develops;
Recommend and implement new policies or modifications to existing policies;
Hiring staff, recommending pay increases, performing performance reviews, training and development of staff, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring consistent application of organizational policies.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree.
Work Experience
At least 10 years of retail/B2C marketing experience with focus on brand marketing, sales and product development disciplines.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
At least 7 years’ experience directly managing people including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work.
Forecasting and budgeting experience.
Experience developing strategic initiatives which align with business goals and budget.
Experience establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, in the business community & with vendors.
Position requires travel at least 50% of the time for business purposes, mostly within state/out of state; some international travel may be required.
