    Job Description

    Swim Coach
    Reports To: Aquatics Director 
    Department: Aquatics 
    FLSA Classification: Part Time, non-exempt  
    Pay Rate (hourly):  $18-19.00/hr (10-15 hours p/week)
     
    Overview: The Swim Coach will assist the Asheville Jewish Community Center’s USA Swimming youth league swim teams and year-round club teams. All JCC coaches foster positive relationships, build an encouraging practice environment, and communicate well with JCC staff, swimmers and parents. The Asst. Swim Coach will be responsible for working collaboratively with the Aquatics Director and Head Swim Coach regarding overall team management and training programs, mentoring athletes, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures in accordance with USA Swimming Safe Sport and JCC guidelines.  
     
    The AJCC Swim Club has three team levels, novice group (7 to 11 years old), age group (9-14 years old), and senior group (13 & older) with a total of approximately 50 swimmers. It is a USA Swimming Team and Safe Sport Certified. The team has seen tremendous growth in the number of swimmers and swimmer qualifications over the past five years. Swimmers of all faith backgrounds join the AJCC because it provides excellent coaching, options for year-round competitive swimming, and a supportive community environment. 
     
    What You'll Do:  
    • Assist the Head Coach with creating practice workouts, including dry land training  
    • Be an on-site coach during practices and meets, following workout guidelines 
    • Help build a positive and welcoming environment, encouraging and supporting swim team athletes in personal and athletic growth 
    • Attend aquatics staff meetings and all-JCC staff meetings  
    What We're Looking For
     
    Required Skills/Abilities: 
    • Experience with competitive swimming, including stroke technique and dryland conditioning  
    • Positive motivator who can lead, inspire, and mentor swimmers   
    • Ability to communicate and build effective working relationships with officials, administrators, employees, swimmers, parents and coaches  
    • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment  
    Qualifications:  
     
    Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent 
    Experience: 1+ years competitive swim coaching or competitive swimming experience 
    Certifications:
    • Current USA Swimming coaching credentials or ability to acquire within first 3 months of employment  
    • CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Oxygen certifications 
    Other: Must pass background check and drug screening  
     
    Physical Requirements:  
    • Must be willing to work outdoors in seasonal heat (100F+) or cold inclement weather   
    • Must withstand prolonged periods of standing, sitting, bending, squatting, walking and climbing up minimal heights  
    • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
