This part-time role is well suited to high school and college students, swimmers, lifeguards, camp counselors, coaches, and others who enjoy working with children.
Previous swim-instruction experience is not required. We provide approximately 40 hours of paid training, including online coursework and supervised in-water instruction.
Pay and TrainingNew instructors earn $17.00 per hour during training. After demonstrating readiness to independently teach and safely supervise classes, instructors advance to $19.00 per hour. Merit increases up to $20.00 per hour may be awarded based on performance, reliability, experience, and contribution to the team.Candidates who complete online coursework promptly and attend at least two training shifts weekly can often finish within four to six weeks. Timing depends on availability, progress, and readiness.Candidates may earn a $250 bonus: $100 after satisfactorily completing training and being approved to teach independently, plus $150 after completing 90 days of satisfactory employment as an independent instructor.
ScheduleClasses are offered Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Consistent weekly availability and reliable attendance are required.
Responsibilities- Teach children and young adults using the British Swim School curriculum.
- Independently supervise and maintain control of classes of up to six swimmers.
- Provide safe, patient, engaging, age-appropriate instruction.
- Demonstrate swimming and water-survival skills.
- Physically support and guide swimmers as they learn.
- Recognize distress and respond immediately.
- Track attendance and skill progression.
- Give families clear, constructive feedback.
- Follow all safety, emergency, safeguarding, and facility procedures.
Qualifications- Currently enrolled in high school or possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Comfortable and capable in and around the water.
- Enjoy working with children.
- Dependable, trustworthy, punctual, and receptive to feedback.
- Able to follow an established curriculum and maintain focus in an active aquatic environment.
- Able to complete assigned training within established deadlines.
Preferred qualifications include experience with children or swimming, freestyle and backstroke proficiency, familiarity with breaststroke and butterfly, customer-service experience, or lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, or AED certification.
Physical and Safety RequirementsThis is an active, safety-sensitive, in-water position. Each instructor must independently perform all essential instructional, supervisory, physical-support, and emergency-response duties.
With or without reasonable accommodation, instructors must be able to independently teach and supervise up to six swimmers; remain in the pool for up to three or four hours with applicable breaks; enter and exit safely; bend, reach, crouch, rotate, and move through the water; demonstrate required swimming skills; physically support and reposition swimmers; maintain continuous visual and auditory awareness; communicate in a noisy environment; recognize distress; and respond immediately.
Essential duties cannot be transferred to another person or performed with ongoing physical assistance.

Our instructors should like working with this age group and be good at making parents feel comfortable. It's helpful if you have experience with children or in a child-focused job, but it's not required if you can show the right attitude.
