British Swim School of Buffalo is hiring a dependable Swim Instructor for our Orchard Park location. This part-time role is especially well suited to swimmers, lifeguards, coaches, camp counselors, and others with experience working with children.

Previous swim-instruction experience is not required, but candidates must be comfortable and capable in the water. Prior recreational or competitive swimming, lifeguarding, coaching, or other aquatic experience is strongly preferred.

Pay and Training
New instructors earn $18.00 per hour during training. After demonstrating readiness to independently teach and safely supervise classes, instructors advance to $20.00 per hour. Merit increases up to $21.00 per hour may be awarded based on performance, reliability, experience, and contribution to the team.

Candidates who complete online coursework promptly and attend at least two training shifts weekly can often finish within four to six weeks. Timing depends on availability, progress, and readiness.

Schedule
Classes are offered Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Applicants should be able to commit to at least two recurring shifts per week.

Responsibilities
• Teach children and young adults using the British Swim School curriculum.
• Independently supervise classes of up to six swimmers and maintain a safe, controlled environment.
• Demonstrate swimming and water-survival skills and physically support swimmers as needed.
• Track attendance and skill progression and provide constructive feedback to families.
• Follow all safety, emergency, safeguarding, and facility procedures.

Qualifications
• Currently enrolled in high school or possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to demonstrate basic swimming and water-safety skills.
• Enjoy working with children.
• Dependable, trustworthy, punctual, and receptive to feedback.
• Able to follow an established curriculum and maintain focus in an active aquatic environment.
• Able to complete assigned training within established deadlines.

Preferred qualifications include experience with children or swimming, freestyle and backstroke proficiency, familiarity with breaststroke and butterfly, customer-service experience, or lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, or AED certification.

Physical and Safety Requirements
This is an active, safety-sensitive, in-water position. Each instructor must be able to perform all essential instructional, supervisory, physical-support, and emergency-response duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.

With or without reasonable accommodation, instructors must be able to independently teach and supervise up to six swimmers; remain in the pool for up to four hours, with applicable breaks; enter and exit safely; bend, reach, crouch, rotate, and move through the water; demonstrate required swimming skills; physically support and reposition swimmers; maintain continuous visual and auditory awareness; communicate in a noisy environment; recognize distress; and respond immediately.

These functions are essential to the Swim Instructor position. Employees must be able to perform them safely and effectively, with or without reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodation does not include eliminating an essential job function or assigning an essential function to another employee.
