Share your love of the water and make a difference this summer with Boise Parks and Recreation! As a Swim Instructor, you'll teach swim lessons to participants of all ages and skill levels using an established curriculum, helping build confidence, safety, and lifelong skills in the pool. This temporary position is based at one of the City's outdoor pool facilities and is open to applicants 16 years of age and older. Essential Functions
• Teaches basic swim stokes and skills to students in a group setting. • Instructs and evaluates students. • Oversees the safety of all class participants. • Keeps and submits skills sheets/reports for each class participant. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, and Training
Previous swim knowledge and experience working with youth under 18. Certifications required as outlined below.
Ability to:
• Adapt teaching approach to students ability level. • Communicate effectively and appropriately with participants (or their parents) about students progress. • Interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner. • Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public, and other organizations. • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance. • Complete assignments in a timely fashion. • Understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations. • Maintain prompt and regular attendance. • Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, and Training
American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Certification within 30 days of hire date.

Applicants must be able to pass:

Physical Efforts
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. • Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. • The noise level is occasionally moderate. • Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, and touch. • Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. • Employees will sit, stand, walk, run, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb, and balance. • Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The work environment will include outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist, and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical hazards and work in/at heights. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids, and chemicals.
Position Details
This position works: Days, evenings, and weekends throughout the summer, up to 25 hours per week.
