JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, teach and/or coach individuals and/or groups of various sizes in summer aquatic programs at multiple locations. Perform other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Effectively teach/coach groups and/or individuals in summer aquatic programs. • Communicate courteously and effectively with other city employees, officials, and patrons, and students. • Keep accurate class attendance rolls. • Coordinate a wide variety of classes on an ongoing basis with frequent additions and deletions. • Coordinate effectively with appropriate aquatic supervisors and others as needed. • Work well with the public.
Practice continuous public relations in dealing with pool patrons. Attend trainings and/or weekly staff meetings as required. Work various hours/days as assigned.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS AND PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES
• Work in extreme heat with appropriate safety precautions. • Carry push, pull, drag, and/or hold objects up to 20 pounds.
REQUIRED EDUCATION DEGREES CERTIFICATES AND/or LICENSES
• Must have completed at least two years of high school or greater. • CPR & First Aid for Lay Responders or CPR for Professional Rescuers preferred.
EXPERIENCE TRAINING KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Must have the ability to swim 4 of 5 strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Elementary Backstroke, Breaststroke, and/or Butterfly). • Competitive swimming experience preferred. • Must have the ability to teach and communicate effectively using whatever skills necessary, physical or otherwise. • Must have the ability to keep class attendance rolls, track student progress, and to coordinate with supervisors and others as needed. • Must be able to work well with the public. • Must be able to demonstrate required ability.
