Swimming Lesson Instructor needed for the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley in Oneida, NY.
Pay rate is $16.00 - $18.00 per hour.
Position Summary:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Swim Lesson Instructor at maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swim classes.
Essential Functions:
-Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
-Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
-Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
-Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
-Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
-Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
-Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
-Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
-Is committed to maintaining a workplace free from all forms of harassment
-Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
-Attends required abuse risk management training.
-Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
-Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
-Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
-YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
-CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and AED.
-Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
-Must meet all Association-Wide training requirements in addition to those set forth by their supervisor.
-Must be able to pass a Nationwide Criminal and Sex Offender Registry Background Screening.
-Must ensure that the physical and social environments for program delivery reflect the Ys definition of character and values.
