Job Goal The Swimming Instructor develops swimming programs that will provide instruction to participants on basic water safety, and beginning skills needed for swimmers. This program will also incorporate activities that promote individual fitness and activity goals for participants with various challenges. A Lifeguard monitors and supervises aquatic activities. Their primary duties include overseeing swimmer safety, rescue operations, and staying alert to changing weather and water conditions.

Job Qualifications: High school diploma preferred Lifeguard certification needed for lifeguard position but not swimming position Must have a CPR training certificate

Experience teaching children and young adult swim lessons Experience working with special needs children Ability to determine swimming level of participants Strong organizational and management skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills essential

Essential Functions: Swim Instructors Develop, set up, and implement lesson plans Teach beginning skills needed for swimmers; examples: flips, kicks, body rolls, floating, breath control, and basic swim strokes Educate swimmers on basic water safety Use a range of activities to improve water confidence Ability to define and set lesson goals and objectives for individual swimmers Ensure the pool or training area is clean, well-maintained, and free of hazards

Lifeguard Instructor Supervising swimming activities and making sure that safety procedures, guidelines, and policies are followed Warning of unsafe activities and enforcing water safety policies and pool regulations Providing first aid in the event of injury, rescuing swimmers in danger or distress, and administering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or artificial respiration, if necessary Assessing conditions for safety and coming up with an action plan for aquatics emergency Inspecting pool equipment, facilities, and water to make sure they are usable and safe Supervising and assisting in cleaning equipment and facilities Opening and closing the pool each day, depending on schedule and hours Instructing or assisting classes in fundamentals of swimming
