OVERVIEW
A precision manufacturing organization specializing in high-tolerance machined components is seeking a Swiss Lathe Machinist to support advanced CNC operations. This role focuses on the setup, operation, maintenance, and optimization of multi-axis Swiss turning equipment within a production-driven environment.
This position plays a key role in producing complex, tight-tolerance components used in highly regulated industries, requiring strong expertise in CNC machining, quality control, and process optimization.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform setup, operation, and troubleshooting of multi-axis Swiss CNC lathes, including 7-axis Swiss machines.
- Execute precision CNC machining operations in accordance with engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications.
- Interpret blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and technical drawings to determine machining processes, tooling requirements, and setup sequences.
- Load and verify CNC programs, perform tool changes, and adjust tool offsets to maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Select and install tooling, fixtures, and workholding solutions to support efficient production.
- Monitor machining parameters including feeds, speeds, coolant flow, and surface finishes to ensure optimal performance and part quality.
- Conduct in-process inspections and quality assurance checks using precision measuring instruments.
- Perform preventive maintenance and basic machine servicing to ensure equipment reliability and uptime.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to drive process improvements, cycle time reduction, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with regulated manufacturing standards and internal quality procedures.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCECNC Machining & Swiss Lathe Operations- 2–5 years of experience in Swiss CNC machining (multi-axis turning)
- Hands-on experience with Swiss-style lathes (e.G., Tornos or similar platforms)
- Proficiency in machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting
CNC Controls & Programming- Experience with Fanuc controls or similar CNC control systems
- Ability to load, edit, and validate CNC programs
- Familiarity with tool offset adjustments and machine calibration
Blueprint Reading & GD&T- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
- Working knowledge of GD&T standards
- Understanding of tight tolerance machining requirements
Precision Measurement & Quality Control- Experience using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, bore gauges, and thread gauges
- Ability to perform first article inspection (FAI) and in-process quality checks
- Knowledge of surface finish requirements and inspection techniques
Manufacturing Processes & Materials- Knowledge of feeds, speeds, cutting tools, and material properties
- Experience with coolant systems and lubrication processes
- Understanding of machining dynamics and tool wear monitoring
CAD/CAM & Software- Familiarity with Fusion 360 or similar CAD/CAM software
- Experience with Swiss CAM software (e.G., PartMaker or equivalent) preferred
Mathematical & Technical Skills- Strong applied math skills including geometry, algebra, and trigonometry
- Ability to calculate dimensions, tolerances, and machining parameters
