10-Month School Constable
Reports To: Supervisor of Public Safety
Primary Function: To assist the Supervisor of Public Safety in providing public safety services in District facilities, ensure compliance with all District public safety policies, respond to, investigate and manage incidents which occur in District schools.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Maintain a proactive public safety presence in schools, including patrolling school grounds and schools.
- Responds to emergencies and reported incidents in schools, coordinates response of other public safety agencies or District resources as required.
- Supports District activities by providing event services such as traffic control and event security.
- Serves as a resource for building administrators in application of District Code of Conduct and applicable mandatory reporting laws.
- Investigates crimes that are reported on school property in cooperation with local law enforcement partners.
- Provides professional development training to school staffs in topics such as: Emergency Management, Threat Assessments and Intruder Management.
- Conducts regular inspection of installed electronic and physical security systems such as access control and video surveillance systems. Schedules repairs and service as necessary.
- Participates in school level threat assessments and assists school with follow up as needed. Coordinates outside law enforcement contact if necessary.
- Serves as part of the District Incident Command Team and District Emergency Operations Center.
- Assists the Transportation Department by responding to school bus accidents and incidents during the transportation of students to and from schools.
- Works with local law enforcement partners to maintain a working knowledge of community crime and gang activity trends to plan for possible school impacts.
- Ensures that school staffs are in compliance with District Visitor Management Policy and procedures.
- Assists in administering the District based drill and exercise program for school Incident Command Teams.
- Assists the Supervisor of Public Safety in insuring that school information is updated in Navigate 360.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Director of Secondary Schools or Supervisor of Public Safety.
Qualification:
- Approval commissioned as a Delaware State Constable approved through the Delaware Constable Commission and the Delaware State Police State Bureau of Identification Professional Standards Department.
- 10 years Law enforcement experience and left the department in good standing. Service in Youth Aide or school based law enforcement is preferred.
- Must possess and maintain firearms certification for handgun as required by the Delaware State Police Professional Standards for Constables.
Terms of Employment: 10-Month position at 37.5 hrs/week.
