System Administrator Advisor (Desktop Support)

Position Overview


We are seeking a Senior System Administrator Advisor specializing in Desktop Support to serve as a subject matter expert for our enterprise workstation and server environments. In this role, you will deliver tier-3 technical support, manage desktop architecture, lead system deployment projects, and ensure high availability for both on-site and remote users. You will act as a technical lead—mentoring junior staff, optimizing performance, and partnering with end-users to drive seamless operational efficiency.



Key Responsibilities

• Advanced Desktop & Systems Support: Resolve complex hardware, software, and operating system issues across physical workstations, thin clients, and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
• Architecture & Image Management: Design, test, and deploy software configurations, system upgrades, OS patches, and enterprise images using SCCM/SMS and Citrix.
• Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as a team/task lead by guiding junior technicians, establishing operational procedures, and delivering large-group user training.
• Peripherals & Infrastructure Administration: Configure, audit, and maintain networked endpoints, including VOIP phones, print servers, plotters, KVMs, and multi-monitor setups.
• Directory & Profile Management: Manage user accounts, home directories, email services, and profile settings to ensure seamless access and data integrity.
• System Recovery & Security Compliance: Lead backup and archive recovery operations, conduct technical hardware/software compliance audits, and tune systems for peak performance.
• Documentation & Project Execution: Maintain detailed incident logs, draft technical runbooks, and manage large-scale IT projects with minimal oversight.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Clearance & Citizenship: Top Secret Clearance & US Citizenship required.
• Certifications Required:
  • Active DoD IAT Level II+ certification (Security+ CE or CASP+).
  • ITIL v4 Foundations.
• Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive desktop support and systems administration experience.
• Technical Expertise:
  • Operating Systems: Windows 10, Windows 11, and RedHat/Windows Server environments.
  • Virtualization & Management: Citrix, VDI (Thin Client), SCCM, and SMS.
  • Hardware & Network: Desktop imaging, print server setup, VOIP, and network hardware troubleshooting.
• Physical & Operational Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and move computer hardware, monitors, and printers (up to 40 lbs).
  • Flexibility to support after-hours or weekend maintenance windows as mission priorities require.
    
    

Preferred Skills

• Experience managing local and remote user profiles, email service migrations, and legacy OS support (e.g., Windows 7).
• Exceptional communication skills with a proven track record of explaining complex technical topics to non-technical users.
