System Administrator III

Job Summary:

• Working under limited supervision, the IT System Administrator III is a senior‑level technical role responsible for managing, optimizing, and securing the organization's infrastructure. This position provides advanced support, leads system implementations, and acts as an escalation point for complex issues across servers, networks, applications, and cloud environments.

Responsibilities:

• Administer, maintain, and optimize Windows and/or Linux server environments
• Manage infrastructure services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, identity and access management, and directory synchronization
• Oversee enterprise storage, virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper‑V), and backup/DR solutions
• Implement and maintain security standards, patching, hardening, and monitoring across all systems
• Provide Tier III incident and problem resolution for escalated infrastructure issues
• Lead system upgrades, migrations, integrations, and infrastructure projects
• Manage cloud environments such as Microsoft 365, Azure, or AWS
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, diagrams, SOPs, and runbooks
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including Networking, Security, Helpdesk, and Application Support
• Perform capacity planning and make recommendations for system improvements

Required Education & Experience:

• 7+ years of hands‑on experience as a system administrator or similar role, required
• Bachelor's degree, preferred
• Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., MCSA/MCSE, Azure Administrator, AWS SysOps, VMware VCP, CompTIA Security+)
• Ability to travel (20%)

Desired Proven Attributes:

• Advanced knowledge of Windows Server and/or Linux systems
• Strong experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper‑V)
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Microsoft 365)
• Experience with PowerShell or similar automation/scripting tools
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, VLANs)
• Experience with endpoint management platforms (Intune, SCCM, Jamf, etc.)
• Knowledge of security best practices, compliance standards, and threat mitigation
• Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills

• Innovation & Courage: Proactively identifies opportunities to modernize, automate, or consolidate infrastructure while operating within ITAR and export-control boundaries (e.g., data segregation, access restrictions on regulated systems); has the courage to enforce compliance-driven security standards even when they slow down convenience or push back on non-compliant requests; challenges outdated configurations or manual processes, and adapts confidently as environments evolve toward hybrid/cloud models without compromising controlled-technical-data safeguards; documents changes clearly (SOPs, runbooks, diagrams) to keep improvements sustainable and audit-ready.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk while working on a computer
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as required
• Must be able to quickly navigate manufacturing areas
• Ability to stand, bend, crawl, stretch, lay, and squat for equipment maintenance
