Description: Benefits Questions Function

The purpose of the class is to perform complex technical and professional work in the design, implementation, administration, and maintenance of the Hampton Sheriff's Office Management Information System. This position administers all aspects of the agency's local area network (LAN), coordinates technological needs across all Sheriff's Office departments, and ensures the security and integrity of sensitive information systems and data for authorized users. Work is performed under limited supervision and requires a high level of technical expertise, independent judgment, and discretion. Pursuant to §15.2-1603 of the Code of Virginia, the incumbent is appointed at-will and serves at the pleasure of the Sheriff. This position is non-exempt.

What You'll Do:

Design, implement, and maintain the agency's LAN and enterprise IT systems Administer information security policies and oversee system security operations Conduct feasibility and cost-benefit analyses for new and existing systems Coordinate hardware/software procurement, installation, and vendor management Develop and manage data backup and recovery strategies Lead long-range IT planning and system integration projects Provide technical consultation, training, and support to staff Maintain system documentation, inventory, and agency website Monitor IT team performance and ensure compliance with standards

Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Considerable experience in LAN system design, administration, and maintenance. Some experience in computer programming and systems development is required. Two (2) years of experience in systems administration or enterprise IT support. Education and/or experience related to law enforcement or corrections at the state or local level is desirable. Relevant experience may substitute for education at the rate of one year of experience for each year of required education. Must successfully pass a background check before any offer of employment or promotion. This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the City of Hampton criteria.

Additional Requirements:

Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and/or Certified NetWare Engineer preferred. The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during city emergencies, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
