System Development Engineer - Productivity Tools, Amazon Leo Productivity Engineering Application Services (ALPEAS)

Amazon LEO is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Amazon Leo Productivity Engineering Application Services (ALPEAS) is looking for a System Development Engineer to own the deployment, administration, and automation of productivity tools - primarily Jama Connect and related engineering collaboration platforms - within Amazon Leo. You will build and operate infrastructure in AWS GovCloud to support Leo"s systems engineering, requirements management, and test management workflows at scale.

Key job responsibilities

• Jama Connect Operations: Deploy, configure, maintain, and scale Jama Connect infrastructure in AWS GovCloud, ensuring high availability, performance, and security compliance (ITAR/EAR).
• Infrastructure as Code: Design and implement CDK stacks for application infrastructure including compute (EC2/ECS), databases (RDS/Aurora), networking (VPC, PrivateLink, NLB), and storage.
• Automation & Integration: Build automation for user provisioning, access management, backups, patching, and monitoring. Develop integrations between Jama and other Kuiper tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, TestRail).
• Security & Compliance: Implement and maintain security controls compliant with ITAR and export control regulations. Manage access through least-privilege models.
• Monitoring & Incident Response: Build dashboards, alarms, and runbooks. Participate in on-call rotation to ensure service reliability.
• Tool Evaluation & Adoption: Evaluate, pilot, and onboard new productivity tools to support Kuiper"s engineering workflows. Drive user training and adoption.

A day in the life

In this role, you will function as both an Jama/productivity tools DevOps Engineer. You will operate various collaboration tools stacks in AWS GovCloud, develop automation for upgrades/patching/testing, and enhance observability of the systems. You will work with stakeholders and senior engineers to design and develop custom solutions and integrations between the productivity tools and other services in a secure manner.
