    Description

Help us build the factory that builds the satellites connecting the world. As a SysDE on the SCADA Infrastructure and Platform team, you"ll design and deliver multi-platform, multi-tenant infrastructure services that enable Amazon Leo"s satellite manufacturing operations.

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we've designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

We are seeking an innovative and solution-oriented System Development Engineer (SysDE II) to join our team to develop innovative solutions and automated pipelines for deploying SCADA infrastructure and platform as a service. This role combines hardware, software, OT and IT stack development for SCADA infrastructure and platform within an active satellite manufacturing facility.

In this position, you will primarily work on backend code for IAC, CDK, and pipelines of full SCADA Infrastructure and Platform lifecycle to abstract SCADA deployment and configuration from SCADA Application development and provide engineering excellence for reliability and disaster recovery while ensuring optimal developer experience for the SCADA application developers and system integrators. Ideal candidate will have direct hands-on experience developing industrial applications using Ignition, deploying Ignition SCADA Platform through modern DevOps practices at scale, or hands-on deployment of industrial software tools to AWS with secure connectivity to equipment on the plant floor.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Design and implement scalable infrastructure for industrial software platforms (SCADA, torque tool management, engineering applications, asset management) across AWS and on-premises environments
    • Develop CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code for provisioning and lifecycle management of factory software systems
    • Build automated deployment frameworks and self-service provisioning tools for multi-tenant industrial applications
    • Architect cloud-native and hybrid solutions supporting OT/IT convergence and manufacturing interoperability
    • Create monitoring, observability, and security frameworks for OT infrastructure following industry best practices
    • Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and incident resolution for manufacturing system availability
    • Drive continuous improvement for deployment speed, reliability, and cost optimization
    • Collaborate with production, engineering, IT, and procurement teams on escalations and cross-functional initiatives

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

    A day in the life

This highly collaborative position interfaces across multiple Amazon Leo teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will have strong experience in automation technology development, with the ability to understand and contribute to platform as a service development, reliability metrics, and developer experience and testing within critical automated manufacturing systems.

The role requires hands-on technical expertise combined with strategic thinking to drive continuous improvement and deliver business-aligned solutions in an active production facility.

The typical schedule requires 5 days in-person per week, participation to on-call and weekend rotations to align with Leo production shifts.

    About the team

The Ground Support Equipment Automation (GSEA) team is responsible for designing and commissioning automation and tooling for Satellite testing and production. This in-house team of engineers and support technicians work directly with satellite designers, testers, and manufacturing engineers to solve unique problems in high-volume satellite production.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
