System Engineer (MBSE / Embedded Systems) Contract

Location: Ann Arbor, MI (Hybrid 3+ days onsite)
Duration: 5-month contract (contingent worker role)

About the role

We re looking for a systems-focused engineer to design and own the architecture of complex embedded software features for a next-generation vehicle platform. You ll translate business needs into clear, testable requirements, create system models, and guide implementation while ensuring safety, reliability, and performance.

What you ll do

• Elicit and write system and software requirements that are clear, complete, and testable

• Create system architectures and models (block diagrams, state machines, sequence diagrams) using MBSE practices.

• Define interfaces and data flows across embedded, real-time, and Linux-based components.

• Partner with software engineers to guide C++/embedded implementations, troubleshoot integration issues, and validate behavior.

• Support verification/validation, including test strategies, traceability from requirements to tests, and design reviews.

• Apply safety and quality practices (e.g., ISO 26262 concepts, fault tolerance) where applicable.

Must-have skills

• Hands-on MBSE experience with CATIA and Strictdoc (SysML/UML modeling and requirements).

• Strong grasp of system & software requirements engineering and traceability.

• Ability to read and interpret C++/embedded code and discuss real-time/Linux

• Experience with automotive embedded systems (ADAS/cockpit/ECU architectures, vehicle networking)

• Familiarity with safety-critical development (ISO 26262 and/or AUTOSAR concepts)

Nice-to-have

• Middleware/IPC and scheduling design for multi-domain systems

• CI/CD and build tooling (e.g., Bazel, GitHub/GitLab), containers, and basic cloud exposure.

• Automotive protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, SERDES.

• Experience leading small projects or mentoring engineers.

Work setup

• Hybrid in Ann Arbor, MI with a minimum of 3 onsite days per week (Tue Thu); flexibility for additional onsite days may be required.
