PURPOSE: To acquire the necessary job skills to perform real-time operations of Bulk Power Systems (BPS) performing real-time actions during normal and emergency conditions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System (BES). A System Operator I will be required, within 9 months, to obtain a NERC Certification (BT or RC) and within an additional 6 months to complete AEPCO/NERC Qualification Card.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Four years of prior work experience in one of the following areas or a combination of the following areas:
Electric utility operations
Technical profession in the utilities field
Related engineering position
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor's Degree in applicable field is preferred.
Ability to create and maintain accurate logs of daily tasks related to generation, transmission
Required to obtain NERC certification (BT or RC) within 9 months.
Required to pass the AEPCO/NERC Qualification Card within 6 months after obtaining NERC Certification.
High level of critical thinking skills.
High level of multi-tasking abilities.
Above average mathematical aptitude.
High level of communication skills including 3-part communications.
Reasonable mechanical aptitude.
Ability to pass 7-Year background check.
High computer literacy.
Basic understanding of electrical concepts (motors, generators, transformers, etc.)
Basic knowledge of AEPCO operated power systems.
Testing required for skill, abilities, and interest.
Any equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience can be substituted for requirements listed above.
