The System Operator role involves
• Ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient 24/7 operation of the electric transmission system
• Monitoring system parameters, controlling voltage, load flows, and responding to system excursions
• Leading or assisting in system troubleshooting, switching operations, and contingency analysis
• Maintaining compliance with FERC, NERC, and regional reliability standards
• Acting as Operating Authority, directing operational actions, and executing system restoration if needed
• Providing backup coverage, mentoring operators, and participating in process improvements
• Requires NERC System Operator Certification, a valid driver’s license, and relevant experience
• Working conditions may include rotating shifts, on-call duties, and occasional travel
• Salary ranges from $125,000 to $140,000.
