Job Summary
The primary objective of this role is to ensure all work activities are conducted safely, regulatory requirements are met, workplace hazards are identified and mitigated, and EHS programs, inspections, training, reporting, and corrective actions are completed in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and contract requirements.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for environmental health and safety matters.
- Maintain employee safety and health records, environmental permit documentation, and all required internal and external reporting.
- Conduct site inspections, support ongoing projects, develop procedures and best practices, identify workplace hazards, and monitor corrective actions through completion.
- Support Safety Task Force initiatives, Code Compliance programs, quarterly environmental compliance inspections, and after-hours inspection programs.
- Develop and deliver regulatory and site-specific EHS training programs while maintaining training records and preparing compliance reports.
- Conduct and document root cause analyses, near-miss investigations, lessons learned, and corrective action plans.
- Develop written EHS programs and review contractor and submissions, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical inventories, emergency response plans, reference guides, and safety notices.
- Provide technical support to maintain environmental compliance related to stormwater management, bulk petroleum storage, hazardous waste management, universal waste management, and other environmental programs.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly EHS reports and dashboards, including trend analysis and leading indicator tracking.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of five years of EHS experience in a regulated industry such as heavy civil construction, transportation, or government.
- Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926 standards, EPA regulations, and applicable state agency requirements.
- Experience conducting incident investigations using methodologies such as 5-Why Analysis and Root Cause Analysis.
- Proficiency with EHS management systems and OSHA recordkeeping systems.
- Ability to travel, including evenings and weekends when required.
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
Desired Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and applicable New York State requirements.
- Experience conducting environmental and safety audits, regulatory reporting, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
- Advanced knowledge of environmental regulations and standards, including RCRA, TSCA, asbestos regulations, water quality regulations, and air quality regulations.
- Expertise in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety or General Industry Certification.
