System Technician – Fiber to the Home (FTTH).

In this role, you'll be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing our FTTH network infrastructure. From Hub sites and OTN cabinets to PON nodes, optical equipment, and outside plant facilities, you'll play a critical role in ensuring our customers receive reliable, high-quality service.

What You'll Do
Fiber Network Maintenance & Repair
Maintain and repair all aspects of the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network infrastructure.
Perform assessments, preventative maintenance, and repairs on Hub sites, OTN cabinets, outside plant facilities, and network components.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues affecting optical, RF, AC, and DC network performance.
Maintain power systems supporting FTTH infrastructure.
Assist with emergency fiber restoration efforts as needed.
Fiber Testing & Network Optimization
Test FTTH, PON, and HFC network components using: OTDR, Optical Power Meter, Signal Level Meter (SLM), Volt-Ohm Meter (VOM), and Spectrum Analyzer
Analyze test results and compare findings against network documentation.
Perform remote OLT setup, balancing, alignment, and signal optimization.
Troubleshoot transmission levels, signal loss, and network interference issues.
Analyze system performance reports and perform corrective actions to maintain network reliability.
Fiber Construction & Network Infrastructure
Perform aerial and underground maintenance activities associated with PON and DWDM operations.
Replace damaged optical splitters, subscriber ports, and passive network devices.
Maintain, repair, and replace optical components associated with remote OLT systems.
Perform basic DC wiring between network equipment and Telect panels.
Support engineering walkouts and field operations assessments.
Business Services Support
Complete business customer fiber connections and service activations.
Run and hang fiber drops.
Utilize handheld splicing equipment to complete fiber connections.
Compliance & Safety
Adhere to FCC, NESC, OSHA, and WOW! safety and technical standards.
Perform required compliance testing and inspections.
Identify and report non-compliance issues.
Maintain accurate records, work orders, and documentation.
Safely operate company vehicles, ladders, aerial equipment, and test equipment.
Team Collaboration
Assist with training and development of fellow FTTH technicians.
Provide operational and technical support to engineering and field operations teams.
Communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company requirements.
Experience in telecommunications, fiber maintenance, network operations, or related
Strong understanding of fiber optic networks and troubleshooting methodologies.
Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations.
Technical Skills
OTDR testing and analysis
Optical power testing
Fiber troubleshooting and restoration
Signal Level Meter (SLM) utilization
Volt-Ohm Meter (VOM) usage
Microsoft Office Suite
Physical Requirements
This position requires working outdoors and in various network environments.
Candidates must be able to:
Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Climb ladders and utility poles safely.
Work at elevated heights and in confined spaces.
Lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
Distinguish wire and fiber colors.
Operate aerial lifts and other field equipment.
Bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, and pull throughout the workday.
Safely operate company vehicles and specialized testing equipment.
