About the Position
This position is with Mississippi State Hospital and is located in Rankin County. The official MSPB classification title is Systems Administration Technician. This is a vocational-level information technology position responsible for performing technical systems administration support within established system administration and operating system policies and procedures. The incumbent will assist with server, storage, operating system, application, documentation, backup, recovery, and system support activities. Duties include participating in requirements gathering, assisting with Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) program configuration, creating lower-level systems documentation, assisting with server installation, performing patch installation on server operating systems and agency-specific applications, conducting backup runs and recoveries, and assisting with server and storage hardware setup. This position performs work at the lower level of risk and complexity and requires attention to detail, organization, communication skills, and the ability to learn and apply established technical procedures.

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 3-4 years of IT technical experience, often in the IT End User service management support function; or A Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant experience.
Characteristics of Work
This is vocational-level technical systems administration work involving support for servers, operating systems, applications, documentation, backup processes, recovery processes, and related information technology functions. The incumbent works within established policies and procedures and performs technical tasks of limited scope, risk, and complexity.
Work includes assisting with system configuration, technical documentation, server installation, patching, backup and recovery activities, and other systems administration support functions.
Examples of Work
Examples of work include assisting with requirements gathering; participating in Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) program configuration; creating lower-level systems documentation; performing technical writing for routine or lower-complexity system matters; assisting with the installation of servers; racking and stacking servers and storage equipment; installing patches on server operating systems and agency-specific applications; conducting backup runs and recovery activities; following established operating system and system administration procedures; documenting assigned work; communicating with technical staff and users as needed; and performing related duties as assigned.
