Systems Administrator

Aquila Technology is looking for a highly skilled System Administrator to support one of the nation’s leading defense research organizations.The Classified Systems Administrator will demonstrate expert-level hands-on expertise with Windows Server, Active Directory, and VMware vSphere while supporting the organization’s enterprise classified computing infrastructure. This position will be part of a team responsible for maintaining the Windows imaging platform and Windows software deployment infrastructure. The successful candidate will be expected to stay current with emerging technologies, collaborate closely with technical staff and stakeholders, and provide recommendations to enhance system performance, security, and operational efficiency across the classified environment. The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, experience administering enterprise-scale Windows environments, and a commitment to maintaining reliable, secure, and compliant systems in support of critical mission objectives.

Responsibilities to included but not limited:

  • Support and maintain Windows Server and Active Directory infrastructure.
  • Support and maintain VMware vCenter, ESXi and vSAN infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain STIG compliant Windows workstation and server images.
  • Deploy new Windows workstations and servers as needed.
  • Research processes and technologies that enhance the performance of the Windows imaging and software deployment infrastructure.
  • Monitor and adjust configurations to maintain STIG compliance for Windows Servers and Active Directory.
  • Participate in projects as needed where Windows experience is required.
  • Assist in developing roadmaps for hardware and software life cycles.
  • Research processes and technologies that enhance the performance of the environment.
  • Research processes and technologies that enhances routine manual procedures through automated solutions.
  • Participate in projects as needed where unified communications experience is required.
  • Assist in developing roadmaps for hardware and software life cycles.
  • Provide 1st tier technical support as needed in support of the community. This would include taking shifts in the classified hubs to provide assistance with password resets and other end user issues as well as working tickets and assisting users as needed.

Must Have:

  • Security+ certification (or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment)
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Currently holds a Secret Clearance (OR a higher clearance)
  • 3 years VMware infrastructure (vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, etc.)
  • 3 years Network Experience (e.g. routing, switching and TCP/IP protocol)
  • 3 years Active Directory
  • 3 years NetApp
  • 3 years Windows 11
  • 3 years Windows Server Platform

Nice to Have:

  • Microsoft Certifications
  • SCOM 2012, EMC Networker, Solarwinds
  • PowerShell
  • Scripting and Task Automation
  • VMware vSAN
  • hands-on experience with Linux administration (RHEL)

Must Have:

  • Bachelors of Computer Science or relevant technical field of study
  • Possess and maintain expert technical depth with the following technologies:

  • Strong understanding of VMware infrastructure (vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, etc.)

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn new technologies and disciplines quickly

All tuition reimbursement requests must be submitted to and approved by the team member’s Manager prior to course registration. Reimbursement will be issued upon successful course completion and submission of final grades and proof of payment.

401K with Fidelity - Eligible to participate following 90 days of employment. Company match on employee contribution:

  • $1/$1 up to 3%, then .50 cents / $1 for 4th and 5th %s
  • Fully vested from day one
  • Company match does not apply to catch-up contribution
Cell Phone & Internet Reimbursedup to $150 monthly to cover cell phone, data, and home internet expenses. Aquila Technology will reimburse team members who work from home ONLY for cell phone/mobile device fees for work-related communications and/or operations each month. Employees eligible for this benefit must work remote 2 days a week or more to qualify.

Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) - Team members are eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,500 every three (3) years for the purchase of electronic equipment used to access corporate services. To qualify for this benefit, employees must have completed a minimum of six (6) months of employment and must agree to and sign the Device Minimum Configuration Form prior to reimbursement. Electronic devices eligible under the Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) program are limited to cell phones, laptops, and tablets.

Work Location:Onsite. Candidates should expect to be onsite 80% of the time.

On Call Hours: Occasional off-hour/on-call support is necessary. Coverage is a week long where the team share duties with the cyber team. This is about once every 4 months. A certain degree of flexibility of schedule is required as some work (planned/unplanned) must be done outside of major production hours during pre-scheduled maintenance windows.

Clearance Level:Should have an active clearance (secret/top secret, etc.) in order to be considered for this position due to the nature of the work being done.

Interview Process: 1st round interview will be a Zoom with the hiring manager. 2nd round interview will be a Zoom with additional team members as needed.
