Position Summary
The Systems and Infrastructure Engineer supports Linux-based systems and related infrastructure that underpin GALILEO, GIL, and related statewide library services. This position supports production and non-production environments across on-premises, vendor-hosted, and cloud-connected systems.
Working as part of a collaborative team, the Systems and Infrastructure Engineer contributes to the administration, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and automation of a wide range of systems and services, including Linux servers, virtualization platforms, authentication and access services, proxy services, application environments, and related infrastructure. This role works closely with the Systems Architect, developers, and other team members to support existing services, implement improvements, and build operational knowledge over time.
This position also supports systems and services that interface with the Library Services Platform and related service platforms, with an emphasis on service continuity, access, integrations, and operational consistency.
This work supports the GALILEO initiative and GALILEO Interconnected Libraries. GIL is the shared Library Services Platform used across all 26 USG institutions. GALILEO includes more than 3,000 institutions, including universities and colleges within the University System of Georgia and Technical College System of Georgia, as well as Georgia K12 schools, public libraries, and select private higher education and K12 institutions. GALILEO programs include the statewide research portal, the Digital Library of Georgia, Affordable Learning Georgia, GALILEO Interconnected Libraries, and other related projects.
