PURPOSE AND SCOPE
Rite-Hite is a global leader in industrial safety and efficiency solutions. As part of the company’s digital transformation journey, we are seeking an Architect,Embedded Softwareto define and guide theembedded softwarearchitecture that underpins connected, intelligent,secure,and safety-critical products.
The Architect,Embedded Softwareis responsible forestablishingscalable, reliable, andsecure embedded softwareplatforms that support control systems, sensors, andconnected devicesacross the product portfolio. This role ensuresembedded software isaligned with enterprise product and digital strategies whilesupportinglong-term extensibilityand maintainability.
The architect partners closely with product management, electrical andmechanicalengineering, hardware architecture, edge and cloud softwareteams, and quality organizationsto translate strategic requirements into robustembedded softwarefoundations.
CORERESPONSIBILITIES
Embedded SoftwareArchitecture Strategy
Define andmaintainreference architectures, design patterns, and standards forembedded softwareacross control products and connecteddevices.
Establish common approaches forreal-time operating systems, middleware, drivers, communication stacks, andapplication frameworks.
Ensureembedded softwarearchitectures support scalability, reliability, safety,security,andupdateability.
Platform Enablement and Product Support
Partner with product management and engineering teams to enable new and evolving product capabilities throughreusable embedded software platforms.
Guidearchitectural decisions related to performance,resource constraints, portability, andhardware abstraction.
Promote reuse and consistency ofembedded softwarecomponents across productsand platforms.
Safety,Security, andLifecycle Management
Defineembedded softwarestandards aligned with functional safety,cybersecurity, andregulatory requirements.
Ensure architectures supportsecure boot, authentication, update mechanisms,andlong-term maintainability.
Participate in designand architecturereviews to assessrisk,safety, andcompliancereadiness.
IntegrationwithBroader Systems
Collaborate with hardware, edge, AI/ML, vision, and cloudteams to ensureembedded software integrates seamlessly into broader system architectures.
Support hybrid deployment models where embedded software interacts with edge platforms, mobile applications, and cloud services.
Ensure clear interfaces and responsibilities across system layers.
Cross-Functional Technical Leadership
Collaborate across product management, embeddeddevelopment teams, hardwareengineering, manufacturing, quality, and service organizations.
Providetechnical leadership, mentorship, andarchitecturalguidance toembedded softwareteams.
Influence architectural decisions throughexpertise, data, and collaboration rather than direct authority.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role does not have direct reports but is expected toprovidetechnical leadership and architectural guidance across multiple teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree inComputer Science, Software Engineering,Electrical Engineering,or a related technical field;Master’sdegree preferred.
8+ years of experiencedeveloping embedded softwarefor industrial,connected, or safety-critical systems.
Demonstrated experience inembedded softwarearchitecture or senior technical leadership roles.
Knowledge / Skill Requirements:
Strong understanding ofembedded software architectures, real-timesystems,andlow-level software design.
Experience withRTOS, communication protocols, andhardware abstraction layers.
Familiarity withfunctional safety, cybersecurity,and certificationconsiderationsforembedded systems.
Ability to balance performance,resource constraints, and long-term scalability.
Strong communicationskills and ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
Leadership& Collaboration:
Platform-oriented technical leader with strong systems-thinking skills.
Comfortable partnering acrosssoftware, hardware, product management, andquality organizations.
Data-driven decisionmakerwhobalancesinnovation withreliability and maintainability.
