Job Title: Systems Engineer

Job Description

The Systems Engineer will troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues across hardware and software systems on combat vehicle platforms. This role works hands-on in both lab and vehicle environments to support system bring-up, upgrades, and system check-out, while ensuring that integrated radar, sensor payloads, networking, and fire control systems perform reliably. The Systems Engineer will translate customer requirements into system architectures and specifications, manage requirements using tools such as DOORS, and support verification and validation activities to meet technical, cost, and schedule objectives. This position collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, provides technical direction, and helps drive key engineering decisions throughout the system lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues across hardware and software systems on combat vehicle platforms.
  • Work hands-on in lab and vehicle environments to support system bring-up, upgrades, and system check-out.
  • Support integration of radar, sensor payloads, networking, and fire control systems into mission systems.
  • Trace system-level issues to root cause across electrical, software, and subsystem interfaces and implement effective fixes.
  • Translate customer requirements into system architectures, specifications, and detailed designs.
  • Develop, manage, and refine system requirements using tools such as DOORS.
  • Support system verification and validation, including test planning, test execution, and issue resolution.
  • Ensure system performance meets technical, cost, and schedule targets throughout development.
  • Collaborate daily with electrical, software, manufacturing, and program teams to align technical work and resolve issues.
  • Provide technical direction and help drive engineering decisions across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and review their technical work for quality and completeness.
  • Interface with customers and internal leadership to communicate technical progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Support evaluation and selection of components, subsystems, and suppliers for integrated systems.
  • Contribute to design trade studies, prototypes, and risk reduction efforts to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Provide input on cost, schedule, and technical feasibility during development activities and proposal efforts.

Essential Skills

  • Strong experience troubleshooting integrated systems, with a focus on diagnosing and resolving issues rather than only designing solutions.
  • Solid understanding of systems engineering processes across the full lifecycle, from requirements through verification and validation.
  • Experience with requirements development, requirements management, and system architecture.
  • Proficiency using requirements management tools such as DOORS.
  • Experience in systems integration and troubleshooting across hardware and software in lab and vehicle environments.
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into system designs, specifications, and architectures.
  • Experience with verification and validation activities, including test planning and execution.
  • Comfort working in hands-on environments, including labs and vehicles, rather than exclusively in an office setting.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with technical teams and leadership.
  • Ability to work independently and lead technical activities and decisions.
  • Experience with electrical engineering concepts and mission systems integration.
  • Familiarity with tools and environments such as MATLAB for analysis and design support.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience integrating radar, sensor payloads, networking, and fire control systems on complex platforms.
  • Experience contributing to design trade studies, prototypes, and risk reduction initiatives.
  • Experience providing input on cost, schedule, and feasibility during development and proposal phases.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and reviewing technical work products.
  • Ability to interface confidently with customers and internal leadership on technical topics and program risks.

Work Environment

This role operates in a dynamic engineering environment that combines office, laboratory, and vehicle-based work. The Systems Engineer spends significant time in hands-on settings, including system integration labs and on combat vehicle platforms, working directly with hardware, software, and mission systems. Collaboration with electrical, software, manufacturing, and program teams is frequent, with daily interaction to coordinate technical activities and resolve integration challenges. Work may involve using engineering tools such as DOORS for requirements management and MATLAB for analysis, along with test equipment and integration rigs in the lab. The position supports structured verification and validation activities, including test planning, execution, and troubleshooting in real-world conditions. The environment emphasizes safety, technical rigor, and clear communication, with a culture that values problem-solving, ownership of issues, and continuous improvement across the system lifecycle.
