Job Title: Systems Engineer - Change ControlJob Description

The Systems Engineer - Change Control manages electrical change requests from government contractors in support of Strategic Systems Programs (SSP). This role guides change requests from initial proposal through technical resolution and full implementation into controlled documentation, ensuring that interface requirements between subsystems are accurately captured and maintained. The position supports the Strategic Weapon System (SWS) community and working groups, focusing on understanding all SWS interface connections and assessing the impact of ongoing updates within TRIDENT II submarine programs. Occasional travel to off-site locations may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage electrical change requests from government contractors from inception through resolution and implementation into SSP documentation artifacts.
  • Support the Electrical Coordination Team in ensuring subsystem interface requirements are correctly captured in SSP-controlled artifacts.
  • Ensure that interface requirements between different subsystems are properly documented so that both subsystems can integrate seamlessly during construction.
  • Support the Strategic Weapon System (SWS) community and working groups with the technical resolution of changes.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of all SWS interface connections and identify impacts to these interfaces based on evolving TRIDENT II submarine program updates.
  • Lead and drive documentation changes to completion, maintaining accuracy and consistency across all related artifacts.
  • Host and lead technical meetings with various internal and external representatives to discuss change requests and interface impacts.
  • Prepare, present, and defend technical information and change documentation confidently to customers and large groups of stakeholders, both virtually and in person.
  • Evaluate change requests, prepare change notices, and resolve comments and feedback related to those change notices.
  • Research and interpret SWS interface data requirements using available SSP documentation and translate findings into clear, actionable documentation updates.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure requirements are captured, tracked, and managed using appropriate documentation control systems and tools.
  • Use requirements management tools such as DOORS to support change control and documentation activities.
  • Adhere to deliverable deadlines and support schedule commitments associated with change management activities.
  • Produce clear, well-structured written documentation and maintain strong configuration and documentation control practices.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree, with Electrical Engineering preferred, and 2-8 years of professional work experience; or a Master's degree with approximately 4 years of professional work experience; or equivalent education and related/relevant work experience.
  • Ability to lead and drive documentation changes to completion in a structured change management environment.
  • Demonstrated capability to speak in public and present confidently to customers and large groups of stakeholders, both virtually and in person.
  • Ability to host and lead technical meetings with diverse representatives involved in change control and systems engineering activities.
  • Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills, with the initiative to independently investigate and resolve issues.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with various internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles relevant to complex systems and subsystem interfaces.
  • Ability to research and understand SWS interface data requirements using SSP documentation and translate them into clear requirements and change artifacts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools for documentation, analysis, and presentation.
  • Experience or familiarity with change management, change control, change request processing, and change order management.
  • Experience with documentation control systems and requirements management practices.
  • Systems engineering experience, including working with system requirements.
  • Ability to work with and interpret requirements using tools such as DOORS (Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • DoD or government contractor experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding and consistently meeting deliverable deadlines.
  • Experience with US/UK Strategic Weapon System and US Attack Weapon System programs.
  • Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler or similar model-based systems engineering tools.
  • Experience evaluating change requests, preparing formal change notices, and resolving comments and feedback on those notices.
  • Experience presenting to customer stakeholders in formal review or briefing settings.
  • Hands-on experience using the Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) for requirements management.
  • Strong writing and documentation skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise, and technically accurate artifacts.
  • Innovative mindset with the ability to propose improvements to change control and documentation processes.

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional engineering and systems integration environment that supports Strategic Systems Programs and complex weapon system interfaces. Work is primarily office-based, with extensive use of documentation control systems, requirements management tools such as DOORS, and standard productivity software including Microsoft Office. The position involves collaboration with internal teams, government contractors, and stakeholder working groups, often through technical meetings and formal presentations conducted both virtually and in person. Occasional travel to off-site locations may be required to support program activities, technical reviews, or coordination sessions. The environment emphasizes precision in documentation, adherence to deadlines, and rigorous change control practices, with a focus on subsystem interface integrity and continuous improvement in processes.
