Systems Engineer

Position Summary
Pratum Companies is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the administration, security, modernization, and ongoing maintenance of our hybrid enterprise infrastructure. This position is responsible for supporting both our on-premises and Microsoft 365/Azure environments while ensuring secure, reliable, and scalable technology services across the organization.

The Systems Engineer works closely with the Senior Vice President of Support Services, internal IT staff, business leaders, and third-party vendors to support infrastructure, cybersecurity, networking, and cloud initiatives. This role provides hands-on technical support while participating in infrastructure projects, maintaining system reliability, and driving continuous improvement across the organization's technology environment.

NOTE:  This is not a remote position; this is an in-office role based full-time from our corporate office in Gaithersburg, MD (Washington, DC metro region).

Key Responsibilities
Hybrid Infrastructure & Microsoft 365

  • Administer and support a hybrid Microsoft infrastructure, including:
    • Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
    • Exchange Online
    • SharePoint Online
    • Microsoft Teams
    • Microsoft Intune
    • Microsoft Purview
  • Support Active Directory synchronization and identity management.
  • Implement and maintain:
    • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
    • Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)
    • Conditional Access Policies
    • Identity Governance
    • Security and Compliance policies
  • Assist with Microsoft 365 migrations and cloud adoption initiatives.
  • Manage DNS records, SSL certificates, and Microsoft cloud services.
  • Monitor system health and proactively resolve infrastructure issues.
Systems Administration
Administer and maintain Windows Server environments including:
  • Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022

  • Ubiquiti / UniFi Firewalls, Switches, and Wireless
  • Aruba Switches
Configure and maintain:

Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity, security, and wireless issues.

Cybersecurity & Business Continuity
  • Administer Microsoft security tools and security best practices.
  • Manage endpoint protection and vulnerability remediation.
  • Assist with security assessments and compliance initiatives.
  • Support enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions including:
    • Veeam
    • BackBlaze
  • Maintain disaster recovery documentation and participate in disaster recovery testing.
  • Respond to security incidents and assist with remediation activities.

Virtualization & Storage
  • Administer Hyper-V virtual environments.
  • Support enterprise storage infrastructure.
  • Assist with server upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle replacements.
  • Monitor infrastructure capacity, availability, and performance.

Business Applications
Support and administer business-critical platforms including:
  • Microsoft 365
  • YardiOne
  • MRI
  • 8x8 Work
  • SAP Concur
  • Meraki Dashboard
  • Zendesk
Work with business users and software vendors to troubleshoot issues, coordinate upgrades, and implement new functionality.

Vendor Coordination
  • Work with technology vendors, consultants, and managed service providers.
  • Coordinate support requests, maintenance activities, licensing, and project implementation.
  • Track vendor performance and ensure timely issue resolution.
  • Assist with evaluating new technologies and solutions.

Technical Support & Escalation
  • Serve as a Tier III escalation resource for complex technical issues.
  • Assist Service Desk staff with advanced troubleshooting.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for recurring infrastructure issues.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and standards.
  • Recommend improvements to infrastructure reliability, security, and performance.

Automation & Scripting
Develop and maintain automation solutions using:
  • PowerShell
  • Python
Automate administrative tasks including:
  • User provisioning
  • Onboarding and offboarding
  • Reporting
  • Microsoft 365 administration
  • Compliance reporting
  • Routine operational tasks

Project Participation
  • Participate in infrastructure, networking, cloud, and cybersecurity projects.
  • Assist with planning, implementation, testing, documentation, and post-deployment support.
  • Coordinate project activities with internal departments and external vendors.
  • Ensure assigned project tasks are completed on time and meet business requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience as a Systems Engineer, Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar IT infrastructure role.
  • Experience supporting hybrid Microsoft environments (on-premises and Microsoft 365).
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
    • Microsoft 365
    • Exchange Online
    • Teams
    • SharePoint Online
    • Intune
  • Experience administering Windows Server environments and Active Directory.
  • Experience supporting enterprise networking technologies, including switches, wireless networks, VPNs, and firewalls.
  • Experience with Hyper-V virtualization.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft security solutions and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

This role is exempt and has an anticipated annualized base salary range of $90k-$105k for a new employee depending on a number of relevant factors including individuals’ experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, abilities, client/property or company budgetary limitations/guidelines, and other job-related company and market considerations.  This position may be eligible to receive discretionary and/or performance-based bonuses on a spot or annual basis, which are variable depending on individual merit/performance, budgetary limitations, company performance, and other job-related factors.  Full-time positions (30+ hours/week) are eligible for 2 weeks paid vacation, 5 days sick leave, 11 paid holidays, and health & welfare benefits as outlined on the Company’s website.  To learn more about our company and our benefits, go to: https://pratumco.com/careers/
