Overview:

The VIRGINIA Class Propulsion Plant Test Equipment group is cognizant over support systems used to test the reactor plant and steam plant system's piping and components at Electric Boat's Groton Shipyard, Electric Boat's Quonset Point Manufacturing Facility, and the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department at Sub-Base New London. Cognizance over the support systems spans both the Virginia and the Los Angeles class of ships with this group support both new construction, and major overhaul availabilities that Electric Boat is contracted to perform. Additionally, the VIRGINIA Class Propulsion Plant Test Equipment group is responsible for assisting with any deckplate issues that arise during reactor plant and steam plant testing, which utilizes test equipment, and offering technically sound solutions.

 

Responsibilities of this position include:

  1. Design, maintenance, and issuance of test equipment drawings with a focus on both technical quality and overall end user experience.
  2. Supporting the various test trades and test engineering organizations by collaborating on test equipment designs and offering technical expertise on the available equipment.
  3. Reviewing of test procedures and other source documentation to ensure designed test equipment is within the required specifications and will function as expected during testing.
Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • 0-4 years of post-graduate engineering experience

Preferred: 

  • Bachelor's of Science or higher in Mechanical, Marine, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Active DOD Secret clearance
  • Prior Naval Nuclear Program experience

  • An experienced mentor will be assigned to each engineer and on the job training is expected
