Systems Engineer II

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Introduction

We are seeking a hands-on contractor who can seamlessly transition between hardware and software tasks to support a growing portfolio of multi-site human data collection studies. This role will serve as the technical connector, ensuring studies launch successfully, operate smoothly across various sites, and incorporate new capture hardware as it becomes available.

Required Skills & Qualifications: 

• 2-3 years of experience in both hardware and software.
• Strong Python and general software development skills.
• PCB design experience (schematic capture and layout).
• Comfortable working independently across hardware and software domains.
• Strong debugging instincts and willingness to travel between sites as needed.
• Proficiency in Bash scripting and Linux command-line tools.
• Prior work experience at client or in client's industry.

Applicants must be able to work directly for Artech on W2.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications: 

• Working knowledge of camera systems (image sensors, lenses, calibration, sync).

Day-to-Day Responsibilities: 

• Provide remote and in-person technical support to data collection sites — debugging capture rigs, network issues, and pipeline failures.
• Assist in launching new studies by configuring capture systems, setting up protocols, validating end-to-end data flow, and training moderators.
• Test new hardware and qualify it for production use.
• Design, prototype, and build custom capture systems and supporting hardware, including PCBs.
• Write and maintain scripts and small tools to automate common moderator and operations workflows.
