The Systems Engineer III leads the development, definition, and maintenance of system level requirements and documentation throughout the product lifecycle. This role ensures that customer needs are accurately translated into system specifications, and that verification and validation activities confirm compliance with those requirements. The Engineer III collaborates across engineering disciplines to support system architecture decisions, contributes to test strategy development, and participates in technical design reviews to ensure alignment with product objectives.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who treats formal systems engineering artifacts (DVPR, DFMEA, ICDs) as tools to drive design, development, and testing, working directly and collaboratively with engineering teams.
Major Responsibilities
Gathers, captures, writes and maintains customer needs and system level requirements
Owns the Design Verification Plan & Report (DVPR), using it to drive design, development, and test decisions rather than as a compliance artifact
Reviews results and evidence to establish if the system requirements have been met
Provides inputs to the systems test strategy and supports test schedule
Works across engineering functions to define the system/product strategy
Coordinates and participates in technical designs and reviews
Leads DFMEA development and applies its findings to drive design improvements and risk-based verification
Contributes hands-on to design and development, including firmware development and debugging, PCB bring-up and debugging, and mechanical and thermal design
Creates and maintains block and boundary diagrams, system inputs, and outputs via an Interface Control Document
Owns system level documentation and maintains it throughout the product lifecycle
Makes key decisions during the design phase of the project using established methods and procedures and explains those decisions to a broader team
Identifies and analyzes risk and opportunities on a project providing context, probability, consequences, thresholds, priorities, risk action and status, and a plan of action
Communicates risks and opportunities to the broader team seeking inputs, and guidance from subject matter experts as required
Supports product development plans in delivery of on-schedule, on-cost, on-quality, compliant solutions
