Systems Engineer (Microsoft Exchange Focus)

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer with deep skills in Microsoft Exchange and enterprise messaging environments. This role is responsible for the design, administration, maintenance, and support of the organization's messaging infrastructure, including Exchange Online, hybrid Exchange environments, Microsoft 365, and related systems.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience managing complex email environments, troubleshooting mail flow issues, supporting migrations, and ensuring high availability, security, and compliance across enterprise communication platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Exchange Administration

• Administer and support Microsoft Exchange Online and hybrid Exchange environments
• Manage mail flow, connectors, transport rules, shared mailboxes, distribution groups, and retention policies
• Monitor Exchange performance, availability, and capacity planning
• Troubleshoot complex email delivery, authentication, and mailbox issues
• Perform mailbox migrations, upgrades, and system maintenance activities

Microsoft 365 & Messaging Infrastructure

• Support Microsoft 365 services including Outlook, Teams, and Azure AD integrations
• Manage Exchange security configurations including SPF, DKIM, DMARC, anti-spam, and anti-phishing protections
• Maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions for messaging systems
• Configure and support mobile device access and email security policies

Systems Engineering

• Support Windows Server infrastructure and Active Directory environments
• Maintain DNS, certificates, authentication systems, and related infrastructure services
• Assist with virtualization platforms and cloud-based infrastructure solutions
• Implement automation and scripting solutions using PowerShell

Security & Compliance

• Ensure messaging systems comply with organizational security standards and regulatory requirements
• Support eDiscovery, retention, archiving, and legal hold requirements
• Participate in incident response and troubleshooting related to email security threats
• Maintain system documentation, policies, and operational procedures

Team Collaboration & Support

• Work closely with Infrastructure, Security, and Help Desk teams
• Provide Tier 3 escalation support for messaging-related incidents
• Participate in on-call support rotations as needed
• Assist with strategic planning and technology improvements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred
• 5+ years of Systems Engineering experience with strong Microsoft Exchange expertise
• Extensive experience with:
  • Exchange Online
  • Hybrid Exchange environments
  • Microsoft 365 administration
  • Active Directory
  • Azure AD / Entra ID
  • PowerShell scripting
• Strong understanding of mail routing, SMTP, DNS, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
• Experience supporting enterprise email migrations and troubleshooting complex messaging issues

Preferred Certifications

• Microsoft Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate
• Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert
• Azure Administrator Associate
• MCSE (legacy certifications acceptable)
