The Role: Systems Engineer - Robotics

The Systems Engineer is responsible for identifying the key system performance metrics and driving design through system modeling. What youll do:

• Lead projects for definition and improvements of system architecture encompassing electrical, mechanical, and software components. • Develop modeling, simulation, and estimation for robotic architectures, e.g., kinematic analysis, multi-body dynamics, calibration, and optimization. • Develop system architectures quickly, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and conflicts across sub-systems and components from different domains. • Perform risk analysis to help guide design of safe medical devices. • Generate high-quality technical documentation for both establishment of new solutions and continuous development of existing designs. • Define and iterate sub-system specifications and requirements. • Design and development of testing processes with specific focus on relevant and meaningful metrics to harmonize equipment verification and desired performance. • Effectively work with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software, and electrical engineers, as well as clinical project management, product development, and marketing staff. • Support improve and educate regarding Verification and Validation activities, as well as advanced troubleshooting for systems field or manufacturing roadblocks. • Follow-up with lifecycle teams, quality manufacturing operation, to ensure newly introduced products or processes maintain a high standard of reliability and performance. • Directly contribute to product development by proposing novel solutions and approaches for enhanced system performance and new applications.

What youll bring:

• BS degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent hardware domain. • Strong understanding of robot kinematics and dynamics, geometry, vision, with a relevant application. • Familiarity with robotics programming, e.g., Python, Matlab, and experience with robotic packages, e.g., ROS. • Problem-solving skills with ability to abstract and generalize. • Background in control of real-time systems. • Familiarity with linear algebra and optimization theory. • Demonstrated knowledge of basic applied statistics. • Experience in documenting and testing electro-mechanical systems. • Excellent communication, teamwork, interpersonal skills with the ability to self-direct.

Requirements:

• ISO 13485 - Medical Devices Quality Management Systems - Requirements for Regulatory Purposes • IEC 60601-1 - Safety standard for electro-medical devices • FDA 21 CFR Part 820 - FDA Quality System Regulation • Experience with rapid prototyping and CAD, SolidWorks preferred. • Experience with data-collection via basic interfaces, e.g., Arduino DAQ, and data post-processing and statistics, e.g., Matlab, Python, Minitab preferred. • Experience with C programming preferred. • Experience with image registration preferred. • Experience with medical devices preferred. • Experience with the following regulations preferred.

Additional Information This is a full-time position. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work. This is not a supervisory role. The position will require up to 10 travel. The main location of this role is in a manufacturing/clinical environment and requires:

• Regular use of CMMs and machining equipment. • Occasional use of CBCT scanners. • Prolonged periods working on a computer. • Ability to lift, push, carry items up to 50 pounds. • Frequent exposure to moderate noise.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable candidates with disabilities to perform this role.
