Overview
Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Systems Engineer in our Global Operations & Innovation Center in Wheeling, WV.
Responsibilities
As a Systems Engineer, you will provide assistance, technical support and administration in the areas of servers, virtualization, storage, connectivity and applications. This position will work in the Systems area of the Network Operations group.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
Propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmer and development teams.
Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company's disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
Integrate servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.
Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers, storage, applications and peripheral devices.
Manage physical and virtual servers and their associated operating systems, patches and software.
Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
Serve as an escalation point for server, storage and application issues; provide timely response to escalations.
Plan and implement server upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.
Work with other Network and Systems Engineers to recommend and execute modifications to server environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
Collaborate with other engineers to assess near and long-term server/storage capacity needs.
Collaborate with engineering staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Work with team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.
Work as part of a team on the design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware.
Participate in key process improvements as they relate to the client/server environment.
Collaborate with System and Network Engineering and other application owners to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of corporate servers to meet business demands.
Conduct research on servers services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the industry.
Qualifications
Five plus years experience in the areas of System Engineering such as System/Server/Storage Administration (servers, SANs, virtualization, AD, Exchange)
Proficiency with Windows Server server operating systems and utilities is required.
