Role Summary

Reporting to our Principal Systems Engineer in Waterloo (Ontario, Canada), this role will be responsible for supporting embedded hardware systems for software development and certification, testing and validation, while managing day-to-day hardware lab operation, maintenance, and continuous improvements.

This role combines hands-on technical expertise, to lab operations management, to ensure labs are safe, efficient, and embedded hardware systems are maintained fully operational.

 

Responsibilities

  • Embedded hardware lab management duties, involving:
    • lab facilities, maintenance, and development,
    • health and safety aspects,
    • hardware inventorying and tracking,
    • user access and infrastructure security.
  • Setup, upgrade and maintain embedded hardware engineering systems – for in-person use, remote systems, bailment systems, demo systems etc. – based on project technical requirements and available infrastructure.
  • Prompt hands-on support for test setups, debugging, and troubleshooting and restoring proper functionality of hardware systems, to minimize systems down-time.
  • Participate in creating and maintaining control features, to ensure engineering systems effectively meet the organization’s quality and security standards.
  • Develop hardware systems documentation - for engineering systems users (internal and external), to maximize the systems up-time and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross disciplinary stake holders across the organization (e.g. Sales, Technical Support, Security, IT, Shipping, etc.), to align in the key objectives and projects requirements as relevant to systems engineering and lab management.

 

Must-Have Skills & Experience

  • Associates degree – new grads welcome - in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field. Experience in lieu of degree will be considered as well.
  • Practical experience in electronics and hardware fundamentals – analog, digital, PCB, power, communication interfaces.
  • Practical experience in
    • embedded hardware systems setup and maintenance;
    • equipment calibration & preventative maintenance;
    • real-time troubleshooting techniques, root cause analysis;
  • Practical experience in lab operations and infrastructure:
    • lab setup and organization,
    • build-out and expansion projects;
    • inventory and asset management;
    • lab safety standard and risk management.
  • Experience developing supporting documentation and online resources (SharePoint, Confluence).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; strong organization and analytical problem‑solving skills.
  • Ingrained sense of accountability and ownership.
  • Continuous drive for learning, pushing technical limits, and finding innovative solutions.

 

Nice to Have Skills

  • Practical experience with network design, as well as hardware and software system components.
  • Basic understanding of standards and compliance: EMI, safety, regulatory.
  • Prior exposure to U.S. export control regulations or regulated development environments is an asset.

 

Eligibility: Due to export‑controlled work, U.S. citizenship is required.

 

Work Location

This role requires working out of our Fort Worth, TX office 5 days per week; on‑site collaboration is essential to this role, while occasional WFH opportunities exist.
