Job Title: Principal Systems Integration Engineer

Job Description

This role leads system-of-systems integration for a complex U.S. Navy weapon system program, with a primary focus on interface integration, interoperability, and maturity tracking across multiple subsystems and stakeholders. The Principal Systems Integration Engineer develops and executes system-level integration strategies, ensuring end-to-end compatibility and readiness across hardware, software, and models. The position requires strong systems engineering fundamentals, deep integration experience, and the ability to coordinate effectively across prime contractors, subcontractors, and cross-functional engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the system-level integration strategy for a complex system-of-systems architecture.
  • Define, manage, and track interfaces between multiple subsystems to ensure clear, well-documented integration points.
  • Monitor interface maturity, integration readiness, and associated risks across all system components.
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability across hardware, software, and models within the weapon system program.
  • Plan, sequence, and analyze integration activities to support program milestones and technical objectives.
  • Coordinate integration activities across multiple engineering teams, primes, and subcontractors to maintain alignment and schedule adherence.
  • Support technical reviews by providing integration status, risk assessments, and readiness updates to leadership and customers.
  • Develop, maintain, and present integration plans, analyses, and technical artifacts to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Execute day-to-day system-level integration activities across subsystems, including troubleshooting and resolving interface issues.
  • Continuously track interface maturity and integration readiness, escalating issues and driving resolution as needed.
  • Drive integration planning and analysis activities to validate interoperability and performance across components.
  • Engage frequently with engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure coordinated integration efforts and shared understanding of system-level impacts.

Essential Skills

  • Approximately 6+ years of systems engineering experience on Department of Defense (DoD) programs.
  • Proven experience with system integration at the system-of-systems level.
  • Demonstrated experience managing interfaces, interoperability, and subsystem interactions.
  • Background working with complex weapon systems or highly integrated platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate across multiple teams and contractors in a complex program environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with system integration, including planning, execution, and issue resolution.
  • Experience with systems-of-systems integration and compatibility testing.
  • Experience with analysis planning related to system integration and interoperability.
  • Ability to track and report on maturity of interfaces and integration readiness across components.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with U.S. Navy systems, such as Trident or Strategic Systems Programs (SSP).
  • Prior work on integration of large-scale defense platforms, including aircraft (e.g., F-35), missile systems, or naval systems.
  • Experience with integration planning and readiness tracking frameworks.
  • INCOSE CSEP or ASEP certification.
  • Active or prior security clearance.
  • Strong systems engineering fundamentals, including requirements, interfaces, and verification and validation concepts.
  • Ability to develop and present clear technical documentation, integration plans, and analysis results to technical and non-technical audiences.

Work Environment

The position follows a hybrid work schedule that combines onsite and remote work. Team members work onsite three days per week, with in-office presence required on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to support coordination and integration activities. The role involves frequent collaboration with engineering teams and stakeholders, leveraging modern digital tools and integration environments to manage system-of-systems interfaces, interoperability, and maturity tracking.
