Description

The City of Round Rock is seeking a hands-on, mechanically skilled, and safety-focused Systems Mechanic to support our Water and Wastewater Utility operations. This essential role helps maintain and repair the equipment that keeps water flowing, wastewater moving, and lift stations functioning across the city.

Posted pay range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.

The Hiring Pay Range for this position is $49,920 to $60,840 annually.

Examples of Duties

As a Systems Mechanic, you will play a key role in keeping our systems reliable by:

  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing pumps, motors, valves, controls, and generators across lift stations and distribution systems
  • Working with electrical systems, including diagnosing and repairing controls up to 480 volts AC and, in some cases, high-voltage controls up to 2,400 volts
  • Maintaining pumps and controls in water distribution systems, including working with cranes and heavy motors
  • Troubleshooting and repairing pressure reducing valves (PRVs), including work in confined spaces
  • Supporting raw water operations by maintaining pumps, valves, and long water lines
  • Maintaining water storage tanks, including climbing towers, performing light repairs, and assisting with upkeep
  • Responding to on-call emergencies for lift stations and water distribution issues, including night and storm response
  • Performing daily site inspections and documenting issues or repairs
  • Monitoring chlorine levels and supply pressure to help ensure safe drinking water

This role involves indoor and outdoor work, varying weather conditions, physical labor, and occasional emergency response-ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of mechanical, electrical, and field-based duties.

Experience in municipal utilities is helpful but not required-we're ready to train motivated individuals with a strong mechanical foundation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least one (1) year of experience as a mechanic or electrician
  • Systems mechanic experience preferred

Certificates and Licenses Required

Valid Class C Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain before hire) is required.

Required Certifications After Hire

  • Must obtain Class D Water and Wastewater Collection I OR

Class D Wastewater Operator License (TCEQ) within 12 months of employment
