    Job Description

    The Tactical Officer (TAC) serves as a trainer, advisor, counselor, and adult leader for the Georgia Military College Corps of Cadets. Reporting to the Deputy Commandant of Cadets, the TAC Officer is responsible for promoting the health, welfare, academic success, character development, good order, and discipline of cadets through a teach, coach, and mentor approach.

    This particular assignment provides primary residential, accountability, safety, and welfare coverage for female cadets. The position requires regular presence in female cadet residential areas and the ability to respond promptly to routine and emergency situations in which legitimate cadet privacy interests may be implicated.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Cadet Supervision, Health, Welfare, and Discipline

    Provide direct supervision and leadership to assigned cadets and promote their health, welfare, safety, accountability, good order, and discipline. Enforce Corps of Cadets policies, standards, and procedures consistently and document counseling, incidents, corrective actions, and follow-up appropriately.

    • Cadet Supervision, Health, Welfare, and Discipline

    Provide direct supervision and leadership to assigned cadets and promote their health, welfare, safety, accountability, good order, and discipline. Enforce Corps of Cadets policies, standards, and procedures consistently and document counseling, incidents, corrective actions, and follow-up appropriately.

    • Character and Leader Development

    Teach, coach, and mentor cadet battalion and company leadership teams. Provide guidance on leadership, accountability, ethical decision-making, military customs and courtesies, conflict resolution, professional conduct, and GMC's values of Duty, Honor, and Country.

    Assist cadet leaders in planning, coordinating, and executing battalion-level training and daily Corps operations.

    • Female Cadet Residential and Privacy-Sensitive Coverage

    Maintain an appropriate and consistent presence within female cadet residential areas. Conduct or oversee room and barracks inspections, accountability checks, standards inspections, and health, safety, or welfare responses involving female cadets.

    Respond to urgent or unplanned situations requiring entry into female cadet living or sleeping areas. Perform these responsibilities in a manner that protects cadet dignity, safety, confidentiality, and legitimate bodily-privacy interests.

    Serve as an accessible point of contact for female cadets who raise personal-welfare, safety, harassment, misconduct, or other sensitive concerns. Make all required reports and referrals in accordance with GMC policy and applicable institutional procedures.

    • Academic Monitoring, Counseling, and Retention

    Monitor assigned cadets' study habits, class attendance, academic performance, and progress toward institutional and Corps academic standards. Counsel cadets who are experiencing academic, attendance, behavioral, or adjustment concerns and coordinate appropriate interventions and referrals.

    Support cadet persistence and retention by identifying concerns early, maintaining appropriate documentation, and collaborating with academic and student-support personnel.

    • Cadet Administration, Accountability, Standards, and Training

    Manage or oversee assigned cadet administrative functions, accountability records, counseling documentation, training records, inspection results, disciplinary documentation, and related reports.

    Monitor and enforce standards involving uniforms, military appearance, rooms, barracks, formations, safety, maintenance, and cadet conduct. Assist with the development and execution of training, inspections, formations, ceremonies, physical fitness activities, and other Corps requirements.

    • Recruiting and Institutional Support

    Represent the Corps of Cadets during recruiting activities, campus events, orientation programs, ceremonies, and other institutional functions. Provide accurate information regarding cadet life, expectations, opportunities, and requirements.

    Perform other related duties assigned by the Commandant of Cadets or Deputy Commandant of Cadets that are consistent with the purpose and responsibilities of the position.

    • Criminal background check must be cleared before any candidate may begin working.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or recognized equivalent
    • Successful completion of at least one military enlistment following by an honorable discharge, or current service in the United States National Guard or Reserves.
    • Demonstrated military leadership, supervisory, training, counseling, or personnel-accountability experience.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate records.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related systems
    • Ability to work varied shifts and participate in physical fitness activities
    • Ability to wear the appropriate military uniform

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution.
    • Ten or more years of military service with progressively responsible leadership experience in positions such as Section Sargeant, Squad Leader, Platoon Sargeant, First Sargeant, or a higher-level military leadership position.
    • Experience as a Drill Sargeant, military instructor, trainer, or leader in a residential, educational, or youth-development environment.
    • Experience counseling, mentoring, or supervising college-age individuals or young adults.
    • Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills
    • Experience in residential, educational, or military environment.
